Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area is a wish granting organization. Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Our chapter serves children from Monterey to the Oregon border and anticipates fulfilling over 400 magical wishes next year.  Each wish is unique and is the dream of a child battling a critical illness. The resulting smiles speak volumes to the healing effects of a wish come true. 

Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area is seeking a collaborative, creative Communications Coordinator who is passionate about our mission. Your experience helping an organization with its storytelling, social media, PR, or marketing efforts will suit you well in this position as our team works to elevate and steward the Make-A-Wish brand and inspire people to take action in support of our mission. The Communications Coordinator role is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position within the Marketing & Communications team and reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Social media management

• Create and oversee all Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area social media channel content and campaigns following internal strategy and brand guidelines

• Maintain editorial calendar for social media and oversee review process

• Occasionally attend wish-related activities or events to post to social media in real time and create live stories/videos

• Set up and track social media advertisements within established monthly budget

• Track and report on analytics, iterate on tactics to grow engagement

Public relations support

• Draft media advisories and press releases

• Send pitches to members of the media

• Maintain reporter contacts and build relationships with local media

Digital marketing and storytelling

• Help steward the Make-A-Wish brand by staying current on the brand, answering questions from colleagues and vendors about brand guidelines, and correcting misuse as needed

• Support the Marketing Manager in website updates and email production

• Write news stories, conduct Q&As, transcribe interviews, other writing assignments

• Help manage wish blog—coordinate with others (volunteers, medical professionals, interns, wish alums etc.) for content

• Keep multimedia assets organized for team, some graphics work

Vendor management

• Secure photographers and videographers for wishes and other events

• Identify and secure volunteer speakers for events

• Process vendor invoices

Other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

• BA or equivalent

• 2+ years in communications, marketing, PR, or related field

• Good attention to detail and well organized

• Experience managing social media accounts in a professional setting

• Strong writing skills preferred

• Experience with websites, HTML emails, and/or graphic design a plus 

• Familiarity with The Raiser’s Edge a plus

• Ability to lift 40 lbs

• Rare evening and weekend commitments required

• Valid CA Driver’s License and access to personal car for rare travel

Make-A-Wish® Greater Bay Area was founded in 1984. In its first year, a total of 27 wishes were granted. Now one of the largest chapters nationwide, we have granted over 9,000 wishes to date and grant over 300 wishes per year.
