Job Details

Organizational Overview:

The San Diego Rapid Response Network (SDRRN) is a coalition of human rights and service organizations, attorneys, and community leaders dedicated to aiding immigrants and their families in the San Diego border region.

San Diego is the largest land border crossing in the world and has been a highly active location for deportations, rights violations, and abuse by Customs Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The SDRRN was activated to respond to increased immigration enforcement activities within San Diego County and humanitarian issues arising at the border, including widespread family separation and unjust deportation of asylum seekers presenting at the Port-of-Entry.

SDRRN’s Core Partners are the American Civil Liberties Union of San Diego and Imperial Counties (ACLU SDIC), Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFSSD), Service Employees International Union 221 (SEIU221) and San Diego Organizing Project (SDOP).

About SDOP

Founded in 1978, San Diego Organization Project (SDOP) is a nonpartisan, interfaith, multicultural organization representing 29 communities and congregations and over 70,000 families throughout San Diego County.  The organization seeks to awaken people to their greatest resource – each other. SDOP's process is based on a model of community organization developed by PICO, a national network of faith-based community organizations.  SDOP works ‘bottom up,' focusing its efforts and resources on addressing the issues that emerge from local communities. SDOP trains community leaders to build empowering community organizations in neighborhoods and cities throughout the county.

SDOP operates from its main office in San Diego and a satellite office in Vista, and now has member representation in all five San Diego County supervisorial districts. As we consolidate this extended presence and power, we are beginning to create policies, opportunities, and lasting systems change that will transform the entire County.

SDOP is a lead partner in San Diego’s Partners for Progress Coalition (‘P4P’), which also includes the ACLU, Center for Policy Initiatives (CPI), the California Endowment (TCE), and SEIU 221. P4P’s vision for change rests on identifying strategies to move individuals from the shadows of society into full participation, in particular creating pathways to the middle class for low-wage workers and those affected by the criminal justice system.

Position Overview:

The Hotline & Volunteer Coordinator will work to deepen, expand and manage SDRRN’s Rapid Response component within all of San Diego County. The Network is supported by a 24/7 hotline, supported by volunteer dispatchers to work from an online and texting platform. The Network is further supported by a consortium of legal partners who can respond in emergency situations. Our strategy is designed to build cross-race, cross-language relationships, and make legal knowledge and representation more accessible. It is critical to document immigration enforcement activity and accurately communicate and alert the community; support the victims and the family and support the advocacy efforts of our partners.
