Government Relations & Grants Manager

PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Grants Manager is responsible for researching, creating and writing grant proposals to fund CHGA’s initiatives and programs as well as all aspects of developing successful grant proposals, coordinating input across the organization as needed. The Grants Manager is responsible for all post reporting and follow-up with funded grants. The Grants Manager is responsible for administrative oversight of federal, state, and/or local government grants received by Covenant House Georgia.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Covenant House Georgia reserves the right to unilaterally modify, remove, or add to any of the following:
- Establish and cultivate relationships with key government contacts, through a variety of methods including attending internal and external meetings.
- Research, develop and write persuasive grant proposals to current and potential government donors/funders in compliance with format requirements, attachments and deadlines.
- Coordinate follow-up invoicing and reporting, as required by grantors.
- Facilitate site visits and cultivation activities, as necessary.
- Coordinate with key staff to develop strategies and tactics to manage and define funding growth opportunities:
- On a regular basis, meet with key development and program staff to determine priorities and assess funding opportunities.
- Work closely with the program team to develop written goals, objectives and outcome reporting that is consistent with grant requirements.
- Work with program team and leadership, to identify and respond to local, state, and federal funding opportunities.
- Coordinate the preparation of competing and non-competing proposals, including developing a detailed task list, assigning tasks, identifying and reporting relevant data, writing the narrative, and working with the finance and program department to develop a budget.
- Serve as primary point of contact for site visits from funding agencies, including informing staff of requirements and responsibilities and providing staff with ample time to gather materials.
- Ensure that deadlines are met and that proposals and reports are of the highest quality.
- Manage memoranda of understanding (MOU) for the agency, identifying areas where MOUs may be necessary and coordinating the process of obtaining and cataloging MOUs.
- Involve key staff and/or Board members when appropriate in the grant submission process
- Assemble and write all government grants in accordance with granting body’s guidelines and recognized formulas for successful proposals.
- Ensure all proposals and grant reports are submitted in a timely fashion.
- Obtain needed documentation, budgets, statistics, references and other materials or information as needed for all grants. Work with other staff to ensure accuracy and relevance of all materials included in any grant.
- Coordinate and ensure all reporting requirements are met for all government grants
- Develop and maintain a database and/or manual system to track grant deadlines, submissions and awards.
- Meet as required with Program, Finance & HR Manager to ensure that established budgetary revenue and expenses for all government grants are understood. Prepare reports on progress as required (minimum quarterly).
- Responsible for reconciling grant revenue & expenses with finance department.
- Develop close working relationship with Quality Assurance Coordinator in creating programmatic outcomes that will be utilized for reporting to grant makers, CH corporate outcome reporting system and the Annual Report.
- Monitor proposals and completes all required reporting to donors.
- Ability to:
- Maintain appropriate donor and electronic prospect files.
- Develop and nurture relationships with trustees and staff housing group events.

- Speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization
- Work with program and project budgets
- Read and interpret documents such as Request for Proposals (RFP’s)
- Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
- Convey Covenant House’s mission to funders
- Compile statistics and program performance measurements
- Create and implement recognition plan for granters
- Upholds Covenant House Georgia standards of conduct, policies and procedures at all times.
- Performs all duties in a manner which reflects the mission, philosophy and policies of Covenant House.
- Models appropriate, professional behavior for staff to establish and maintain superior services to youth in a safe and inviting atmosphere.
- Ensures that all buildings and surrounding areas are safe and free from any conditions that may cause harm or danger to youth, staff, volunteers, or visitors.
- Ensures compliance of files in accordance to specific city, state and Federal guidelines.
- Participates in other CHGA programs and activities as required.
- Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, representatives of other agencies, and the public.
- Effectively communicates, verbally and in writing, with both internal and external individuals and/or businesses.
- Responds in a timely manner to emergencies and resolve issues.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred; minimum of 3-5 years’ grant writing experience; experience in non-profit development with emphasis in government grant writing with demonstrated success in generating significant commitments from government agencies; experience working in human service agencies and/or experience with homelessness populations.

- Ability to work standing, walking, and/or sitting a minimum of 8 hours per day/shift.
- Ability to drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or persons.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel as needed for training or to fulfill job requirements.
