Job Details

The Atlanta Opera is accepting applications for a Studio Tour Manager for the 2019-2020 season. Designed to travel, The Atlanta Opera Studio Tour productions are presented in schools and community venues across the state of Georgia each season. To celebrate its 40th year on the road, the 2019-20 season features a new adaptation of Humperdinck’s enchanting fairytale Hansel and Gretel where students are invited to take center stage alongside Atlanta Opera artists. The Studio Tour Manager will provide critical support serving the Stage Manager and primary company contact as the production travels across the state for 11 weeks during the season.  14 total weeks of work between September 22, 2019 and May 24, 2020.

SUMMARY

The Tour Manager provides critical support to the success of The Atlanta Opera’s touring education opera production – presented to 20,000 students in schools and community venues across the state of Georgia.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stage Manage all rehearsals and performances of professional touring education show
  • Act as primary liaison between The Atlanta Opera staff, artists, and crew overseeing communication between the parties, including scheduling and report distribution
  • Transport artists, scenery and costumes to school and community venue locations
  • Oversee and coordinate set-up and breakdown of scenery and props
  • Oversee and coordinate adaptation of touring shows in multiple performance venues
  • Communicate and ensure timely repairs of maintenance issues with the production team
  • Complete and distribute detailed daily rehearsal and performance reports
  • Maintain the integrity of the show through a lengthy performance period
  • Oversee and communicate schedules to touring artists, staff and production team

COMPETENCIES

  • Have a solid background in stage management and a proven history of problem solving
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Able and willing to drive large rental truck or passenger van to performance venues
  • Have hands-on, practical experience with technical theater; specifically costumes and props
  • Be self-starting and solution oriented
  • Communicate clearly in both written and verbal forms with staff, performers, educators and audience members
  • Patience, flexibility and friendly attitude

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 2-3 years of technical theater experience
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
  • Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner
