Position Description:

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta inspires philanthropy and strengthens our region by providing quality services to donors, engaging donors to address the most pressing needs facing our community, and leading innovative solutions and approaches to address our region’s greatest challenges. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Philanthropy.

This position, within the Philanthropy Department, is responsible for:

Professional Advisor Services. Providing world-class experiences for Community Foundation professional advisors and their clients on their philanthropic journey, developing deep, sustained relationships with professional advisors and their firms to make the Community Foundation their trusted philanthropic partner.

Co-Investment.  Engaging professional advisors with the Community Foundation’s priorities to align and influence philanthropic giving, using community resources and expertise to connect their clients to significant causes, strengthening the Community Foundation’s capacity to address critical community needs and providing meaningful satisfaction for their clients.

Development and Philanthropic Solutions.  Cultivate and solicit sustained contributions from donors to and through the existing funds, create additional philanthropic vehicles and philanthropic solutions to meet donors’ needs, seek and pursue referrals from donors, professional advisors, and current and former board members for new donor prospects, and support CEO with prospect cultivation and closing. Developing and delivering philanthropic solutions to transform complex assets and large contributions into philanthropic capital providing immediate and enduring benefit.

75th Anniversary Campaign.  Participate actively in the design and running of the development and endowment building activities of the 75th Anniversary Campaign for a Greater Atlanta, including cultivation of prospects.

Key Accountabilities of the Position:

  • Building and nurturing relationships professional advisors, referrals, prospective donors, community partners, businesses, and nonprofits
  • Identifying, qualifying, and attracting new donors with a need and desire to address increase their philanthropic impact and maximize their financial assets available for philanthropy
  • Educating advisors, prospects and others on the tax, financial, and other benefits of working with the Community Foundation
  • Providing philanthropic leadership for the professional advisor and nonprofit communities to expand awareness of the Community Foundation
  • Stewarding and cultivating networks of civic ambassadors to the Foundation who can be instrumental in the Foundation’s growth of philanthropic assets
  • Designing and delivering, as part of a team of philanthropy professionals, the 75th Anniversary Campaign, including support for volunteer leaders, prospect research, cultivation, and gift closing.
  • Delivering planned giving services included with the Nonprofit Advantage Fund
  • Participating in professional advisor-focused programs including annual planning, coordinating activities/people/partners, reporting, partnership management, resolving problems, communication, and working with internal partners to execute events, such as PALI, Balser Symposium, and Balser Giving Circle
  • Partnering with Marketing and Communications on professional advisor and prospective donor marketing and other communications
  • Advising professional advisors and prospective donors on various philanthropic vehicles to help them meet their clients’/their philanthropic goals for giving while living and legacy gifts
  • Identifying, structuring, and vetting new gift opportunities and negotiating fund agreements, planned gifts, and fees for all services, as well as executing complex gift processing including privately held assets and realized planned gifts
  • As engaged by Philanthropic Officers, providing consulting to current donors on planned gifts, non-cash asset gifts, legal issues, fund agreements, and planned gift administration
  • As part of the 7th Anniversary Campaign, leading the endowment, planned giving, and complex gifts portions of the Campaign.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage competing priorities for self and team members, and to use data in decision-making processes
  • Strong leadership, management, relationship building, influencing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to work effectively across all levels of management and staff
  • Experience and demonstrated results prioritizing and focusing a team on connecting, collaborating, and engaging with professional advisors and or high net worth individuals for purposes of financial and/or philanthropic engagement
  • Technical knowledge of charitable tax law, and planned and complex giving
  • Ability to achieve results as a leader, adept at team building, facilitation, and mentoring/coaching/growing/empowering talent. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Financial acumen for accurate and efficient portfolio analysis, budget management, and decision-making
  • Dedication to problem-solving, efficiency, and process improvement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word; philanthropy records systems database technology such as Raiser’s Edge or FIMS  

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in estate planning, taxation, planned giving, financial planning, business development, including experience in building, mentoring and motivating a high performing team. 
  • Deep understanding of financial and philanthropy operations and administration, including investments, CRM, charitable tax planning, and prospect research preferred. 

Education:

  • Master’s Degree and JD required.
  • Professional designation(s) such as LL.M., CPA, CFP, preferred.
