The Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc. seeks a full time website content writer to refresh content on Georgia’s statewide legal self-help website for an 18 month project funded by a grant from the Legal Services Corporation. Georgia’s statewide website contains web-based resources for the public that describe the law in plain language, that connect users to organizations that can help them, and that help users fill out forms. The writer will be supervised by the Director of Grants & Innovation and will work closely with the Director of Communications & Annual Giving and the Development Coordinator.
The goal of the project is to improve the usability and accessibility of Georgia’s self–help legal website, GeorgiaLegalAid.org, as well as the national LawHelp template it utilizes. The writer will work in Legal Aid’s office downtown with travel required to other Legal Aid county offices and outreach events in the metro-Atlanta area. The writer will work with the Director of Grants & Innovation to implement the project and market the website content.
Duties include working with the Director of Grants & Innovation and national partners to conduct a site-wide content, visual design and accessibility review of GeorgiaLegalAid.org, managing contractor relationships, conducting stakeholder and user input, leading the effort to revise and create new website content in partnership with Legal Aid’s substantive experts, and maintaining our community education print materials. Other duties, depending on experience, may include development database maintenance, assisting with other website content maintenance, and social media.
Qualifications: An undergraduate degree in a related field. Candidates should have strong writing skills, strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, experience with website content development and management, data collection and review, and have a demonstrated interest or experience working with low-income persons. Candidates with substantive knowledge of legal issues relevant to Legal Aid clients and website accessibility are strongly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have the ability to turn technical concepts into relatable content that is clear, informative and adheres to a consistent style and tone. Communication and listening skills, ability to work in a team and alone, adaptability, and appreciation of diversity are required. Previous experience with Google Analytics, html coding, or video production and fluency in Spanish are highly valued.
Terms: The salary for this position starts at $36,500+ depending on experience. The program provides generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, vacation, sick, and paid parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 deductible and set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); and voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match.
