The Senior Director, Individual Giving leads a distributed team of individual giving fundraisers responsible for mid-level market revenue and donor growth.  This position provides strategic direction to the operational plan development and oversees the implementation to accelerate the mid-level giving program in the eastern half of the country representing $6+ million in revenue annually.

This role is responsible for empowering staff and volunteers in addition to increasing revenue, retention and acquisition of individual giving donors work collaboratively with Major Gift Officers, Market Leaders, and key volunteers to effectively implement a comprehensive donor engagement strategy in the territory.

The Senior Director, Individual Giving strategically engages a pipeline of new and retained prospects through a defined portfolio of donors giving at the $10,000 - $25,000 level. This position actively works a portfolio to create meaningful interactions including gift solicitation and stewardship.

Responsibilities

1. Mid-Level Individual Giving Fundraising

  • Supervise fundraising managers and specialists to ensure their portfolios are activated and meaningful donor engagement is prioritized within their daily work to increase revenue in markets
  • Qualify territory prospect lists, determine quarterly goals and monitor steps, process and journey toward gift closures for team
  • Inspire close collaboration between mid-level team, market leaders, and major gift officers to develop and promote strategies that enhance donor relationships at all levels and to produce revenue growth
  • Establish protocols and signal budget needs for mid-level giving in the east to ensure alignment with the Society's fiscal year budget and plans; monitor team expenses and revenue; ensure appropriate controls are implemented and goals are met.
  • Guide the east mid-level giving team to use tools and resources for planning donor receptions, cultivation strategies and solicitation and stewardship to ensure consistent and thoughtful outreach.
  • Ensure understanding of and adherence to Individual Giving operational plans and processes and communicate areas of improvement for ongoing refinement
  • Remain current on guidelines and protocols in relation to donor engagement; communicate them to staff, properly train and hold the team accountable.
  • Influence relationship management teams to effectively develop and support moves management planning for each market's prospects.
  • Lead Donor Relations Committees in defined markets and work collaboratively with Market Leaders to ensure effective volunteer recruitment and activation.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally at high levels to ensure strategic donor engagement in all facets of the organization.
  • Create and drive annual donor relations strategy for all assigned markets including event execution, strategic stewardship and meaningful donor engagement through appeal follow-up, renewal outreach, market engagement and national cultivation opportunities.

2. Active Portfolio Management 

  • Manage defined pipeline of new and retained donors through meaningful interactions to inspire engaged donor relationships that drive individual giving revenue growth.
  • Actively identify top relationships within portfolio to strategically align moves management plans.
  • Leverage qualification skills to regularly assign donors to portfolio by identifying individuals with capacity, propensity and interest in the organization.
  • Engage with donors in a variety of ways through strategic communications and planning to leverage specific donor interests and deepen their connection to the organization.
  • Champion and encourage collaboration in donor relationships through relationship management meetings.
  • Empower individual giving staff and market management teams as well as key market volunteers to identify, cultivate and solicit donors.
  • Leverage national donor engagement opportunities to bolster meaningful donor interactions.
  • Activate gift renewal strategies by strategically aligning resources and executing streamlined processes to retain donors.

3. Administration 

  • Actively record and upload interactions for all assigned donors.
  • Oversee territory qualification of prospects and lead portfolio management, ensuring team assignments are regularly updated.
  • Regularly review budgets, financial reports and other meaningful reports to help ensure the team is meeting revenue and performance goals.
  • Conduct prospect research utilizing a suite of resources.
  • Pull defined reports from the reporting system.

  Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years progressive fundraising experience with individuals and track record for closing gifts and articulating a case for giving.
  • 3 or more years of experience supervising fundraising staff.
  • Ability to identify and mobilize staff and volunteer talent; assess strengths, educate, coach and mentor staff remotely and in person 
  • Problem-solving, prioritizing, influencing, and relationship management skills required
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and solid judgement in communication and a high degree of professionalism
  • Strong writing skills including proposal and report writing, as well as internal and external communications with attention to detail and ability to mentor staff to improve communications.
  • Strong understanding of moves management planning and the donor lifecycle.
  • Ability to work independently while driving the goals and initiatives of a collaborative fundraising team. Ability and desire to work effectively as part of a team.

Technical/Other:

  • Experience with Salesforce (preferred) or equivalent CRM database.
  • Strong computer skills: MS Office XP -- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Database/Reporting tools, Outlook and Internet.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, cultural values, and expectations of the National MS Society
  • This position will be required to drive/travel on Society business. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation. The Society does run motor vehicle checks for all positions which require driving and the applicant must meet the Society guidelines.
  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends to support events, committee meetings, etc
