Second Helpings Atlanta is a non-profit food rescue organization whose mission is to reduce hunger and food waste in the metro Atlanta area by rescuing healthy, surplus food and delivering it to Partner Agencies who feed the hungry every day.  With a community of more than 450 volunteers, SHA rescued 1.64 million pounds of food in 2018, enough to provide more than 1.37 million nutritious meals that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill.  

Second Helpings Atlanta’s Development Manager is responsible for all vital revenue streams, which allows the organization to achieve its mission and maximize its impact in the community. The Development Manager develops the annual fundraising strategy and organizes fundraising activities, campaigns and events, manages the development budget and drives execution of the annual fundraising and cultivation plan.

Job type:

  • This a Full-time exempt position that reports directly to the Executive Director

Responsibilities:

  • Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with SHA
  • Generate and implement new ideas that increase revenue and donor loyalty
  • Develop and execute the SHA’s annual fundraising strategy, plan, and budget with the goal of raising $500,000+ annually
  • Provide leadership in the research and identification of high dollar individual donors and public/private foundations and recommends solicitation strategies
  • Write grant applications, Letters of Intent, and progress reports
  • Solicit corporate sponsorships from organizations whose philanthropic focus areas are aligned with SHA’s mission
  • Plan and execute our annual River Feast event
  • Develop and execute annual direct mail campaigns and other solicitations of individual donors
  • Ensure acknowledgment of donations and gifts is done in a timely manner
  • Maintain long-term relationships with existing donors
  • Identify and build relationships with new and prospective donors
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database (Salesforce) and fundraising platform (Network for Good)
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations
  • Drive targeted fundraising and donor stewardship events
  • Create solicitation materials for the fundraising team
  • Report fundraising progress to the Executive Director, Development Committee, and the Board of Directors
  • Act as the staff liaison to the Development Committee
  • Oversee the development budget and monitor expenses
  • Provide leadership for the planning and execution of third party events we participate in
  • Collaborate with SHA’s Marketing Committee and staff to broadly promote all events and fundraising campaigns to the community
  • Actively promote SHA as one of its representatives to the community at networking events and presentations aimed at specific target audiences
  • Recruit, train, and support key volunteers and Board members to assist in cultivation efforts
  • Stay on top of fundraising trends and the nonprofit community

Qualifications:

  • Must have 4 - 5 years of experience in nonprofit development with proven results
  • Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Time management and flexibility with job duties
  • Fundraising software and tools expertise / Salesforce experience a plus
  • Creative, self-starter attitude
  • Donor and volunteer service mentality
  • Organized and inspiring team leader
