Position Title: Development Officer, Individual Support

Reports to: Development Manager

FLSA: Exempt

DEPARTMENT: Development

REVISION DATE: June 2019

Principal Function:

The Development Officer of Individual Support is responsible for developing and implementing the overall strategy for solicitation, cultivation and stewardship of individual donors in relation to Individual Support, Planned Giving and Tribute & Memorial Giving programs.  This position plays an integral role in the Development/Advancement Department. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to; identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual prospects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cultivation

  • Identify, cultivate and manage a portfolio of individual prospects for areas of responsibility
  • Plan and implement cultivation activities to strengthen relationships with donors and prospects

Solicitation

  • Include key staff in solicitation strategies
  • Maintain a pipeline of prospects and solicitations
  • Plan and execute regular touchpoints with donors and prospects

Stewardship

  •  Ensure proper stewardship of existing donors, as well as prospects
  • Attend Garden programs and special events, as appropriate
  • Strengthen relationships with donors and prospects

Administrative

  • Develop annual work plan and revenue goals
  • Participate in donor prospecting, cultivation, stewardship and solicitation
  • Collaborate with and provide regular updates to Development Manager and Vice President, Institutional Advancement, as well as Advancement Department
  • Maintain accurate donor records in both Raiser’s Edge database, digital files and traditional paper files
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Development Manager and/or Vice President, Institutional Advancement

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, a self-starter, and a team player with energy, positivity, and flexibility.     Experience working with volunteers is a plus.  Full computer proficiency required. Competency with Raiser’s Edge preferred.  The position requires an undergraduate degree and three+ years’ experience in non-profit fundraising.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • lifting (up to 20 lbs.), bending/reaching. 
  • Long periods of time working at a computer terminal.
  • Position requires mostly sitting work with some standing, bending and stooping to perform general office work.
  • Occasional weekend, evening or holiday work may be required.
