Free Bikes 4 Kidz Atlanta is a non-profit organization whose goal is to collect and refurbish gently used bicycles to give to underserved children who otherwise have no resources to get a bicycle. The Atlanta FB4K team focuses on the underserved areas of metro Atlanta through partnerships with groups such as the United Way and Atlanta Public Schools. Our collection, refurbish, and giveaway season runs from late September through early December of each year. Our 2019 goal is to collect and refurbish 1,000 bicycles, almost doubling the size of our 2018 operation.

FB4KATL is looking for a Warehouse Manager for the refurbishment season lasting roughly from early September to early January. The Warehouse Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility where the bike storage, refurbishment and giveaway will happen. This facility is usually donated to FB4K and is usually in a different location every year.  The Warehouse Manager will work in conjunction with the Chief Mechanic to ensure that the storage, tracking and refurbishment process runs smoothly.

The duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Be available during the shop hours -- Saturdays and Sundays from October to mid-December and some weekday evenings (including transportation to and from the warehouse site)- preferably on site.
  • Working with the Board/Executive Team to secure warehouse space.
  • Oversee the initial transport and unpacking of FB4K warehouse materials from storage to the facility.
  • Setting up the initial shop floor and bike corrals according to FB4K ops plans.
  • Counting the bikes at each station and keeping a running record of the work in process.
  • Ordering parts from vendors and monitoring need for replacement.
  • Forecasting volunteer needs for all three work areas (clean, prep and refurbishing).
  • Coordinating schedule and volunteer needs with the volunteer coordinator.
  • Address and facility issues with the facility owners/managers.
  • Ensure all materials are available for cleaning and prepping (shop rags, cleaners, etc).
  • Work closely with the Chief Mechanic to ensure all the tires, tubes, parts and other consumable materials are available for refurb.
  • Work with the site host to make sure all volunteers get the proper training (quick FB4K videos).
  • Ensure the warehouse is transformed over from refurb center to the Giveaway Day site.
  • Oversee the repacking of FB4K materials, transport to the storage unit and final cleaning of the warehouse space.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of bicycle shop operations or similar bike co-op operations (SOPO, Bearings, etc).
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to work with other FB4K leaders (chief mechanic, volunteer coordinator, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with various members of leadership
  • Basic budgeting skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work with and oversee volunteer staff
  • Adaptability and ability to quickly integrate into new environment
  • Microsoft Excel skills or similar BI package for monitoring the flow and forecasting needs.
  • Works quickly to address unforeseen issues as they arise (weather, inventory, volunteer staff concerns, etc.)
  • No felonies or other convictions that would keep the WM from being near children

Preferred skills:

  • Basic carpentry and handyman skills
  • Experience with the FB4K refurbishment and/or Giveaway Day
  • A knowledge of basic bicycle mechanics
