Job Details

SUMMARY

Responsible for the detailed day-to-day assistance to the Volunteer Services department, any volunteer services’ needs, and all related activities.

JOB SKILLS, RESPONSIBILITIES, CHARACTERISTICS

Responsibilities

  • Schedule individuals and groups to pack meals, deliver meals, or to support any other activities requiring volunteers for special events or projects.
  • Facilitate volunteer orientations and trainings.
  • Cross- train in all volunteer services areas to assist Volunteer Managers in daily tasks.
  • Assist Managers with recruitment of adequate volunteers on a continuous basis. 
  • Recruit volunteers using various methods, including making phone calls and posting on websites such as VolunteerMatch, United Way and Hands on Atlanta.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of special projects to fulfill Open Hand Needs.

Community Involvement

  • Promote the Open Hand Atlanta volunteer program through presentations, attending volunteer events, and using social media.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with organizations such as corporations, schools, social organizations, civic organizations, and churches to expand the volunteer base.
  • Execute any other duties as requested.

  • Proficient in basic computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet usage.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and transfer current knowledge to new situations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with other professionals and clients, utilizing acceptable English grammar standards. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to the public.
  • Demonstrated capability to conduct one’s self in a calm and professional demeanor when dealing with the public and/or with difficult situations. 
  • Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job. 
  • Ability to work productively in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions.

None

QUALIFICATIONS

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Must work Tuesday – Saturday 8am – 5pm.
  • Must also be available to work a flexible schedule which includes weekends, holidays, and late shifts.
  • Must have transportation and willingness to take out meals in the event of a volunteer cancelling their shift.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Must have High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and acceptable reading skills. 
  • Preferred a 4 year Bachelor’s degree.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos in English.  Ability to write simple correspondence in English.  Ability to communicate to all staff and volunteers appropriately.

SOCIAL SKILLS

Requires ability to communicate appropriately with all staff and volunteers.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • The employee is regularly required to sit at a computer, answer the telephone, use hands and arms to write, file, and perform other office duties. 
  • The employee is required to walk, stand, drive a car, and lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. 
  • The employee must be able to talk, hear, and see.

COMPENSATION

Non Exempt paid hourly plus eligible for full benefits after 60 days.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate but constant.

CELL PHONE AND HEADSET USAGE

The usage of cell phones is restricted to break time only.  Headsets are not allowed while performing duties due to safety issues and impairment of necessary communications with staff and volunteers.
