Development and Communications Manager
The mission of the Truancy Intervention Project Georgia, Inc. (“TIP”) is to increase student attendance and opportunities for success through legal and family advocacy. Now in our 28th year of operation, TIP provides early, positive interaction with children in Atlanta and Fulton County Public Schools who are chronically absent from school, and as a result become involved with the Fulton County Juvenile Court or are referred for intervention at the school level. In partnership with volunteer attorneys and other professionals, TIP works to uncover and address the underlying causes of each child’s absenteeism, setting them up for a future of school attendance and overall success.
TIP is seeking a Development and Communications Manager to join our team. Responsibilities include the identification and procurement of financial resources, grants management, and communications oversight. Bachelor’s degree and experience in non-profit development strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in fundraising and communications, the ability to work with a volunteer board, and be creative and attentive to detail. This is a part-time position (approximately 30 hours/week) with a flexible schedule. Competitive salary and a fun, accommodating work environment.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Development and Communications Manager supports TIP’s work by coordinating efforts to maintain and increase the organization’s funding base. The manager’s main objective is to solicit both donations and grant funding for TIP while also promoting its mission and programs in social media and email communication. In particular, the manager is expected to maintain and establish partnerships with corporations, foundations, and public grant makers so that TIP may continue to work creatively to deepen the impact of its successful programming and launch new initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with organization leadership to cultivate existing funder relationships and identify potential future donors and appropriate grant opportunities.
- Manage donation requests, pledges, and receipts; prepare and send acknowledgement letters and related paperwork; maintain donor database.
- Draft grant applications; prepare grant reports and reports for other funders; manage communication with all funders.
- Research and develop other funding opportunities, including foundation grants, government support, and individual giving.
- Develop and implement social media communications strategy; create or request content and post regularly on social media channels.
- Prepare biannual print newsletter and other marketing materials.
- In collaboration with Executive Director and Volunteer and Training Manager, plan and direct annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.
- Assist with other organizational needs as appropriate.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Two years’ experience in development field, preferably in major gifts programs, prospect identification and cultivation, or individual giving campaigns.
- Experience in the nonprofit sector; capital or fund campaign experience a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; outstanding writing abilities. Prior experience drafting publications or managing organizational social media accounts a plus.
- Superior attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
- Demonstrated commitment to children and families, education, or communities experiencing poverty or other marginalized groups.
- Willingness to pitch in where needed and wear an organizational “hat”; flexible; ability to be a team player and work collaboratively with staff and Board members from diverse backgrounds; prior experience in small non-profits or start-up organizations a plus.
- Familiarity with Little Green Light, Canva, and social media platforms for organizations a plus.
