Executive Director for the Roswell Arts Fund

The Roswell Arts Fund is seeking a dynamic professional for Executive Director who will provide leadership to Board members, staff partners, and other stakeholders. 

The Roswell Arts Fund is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a powerful voice and advocate for the arts, strengthening the scope, quality, and diversity of the arts and striving to fully integrate the arts into the social and economic fabric that is uniquely Roswell. 

The Roswell Arts Fund was established in September 2014, as a direct outcome of the Imagine Roswell Arts & Culture 2030 study.  It is independent of the City of Roswell, but works interdependently with City staff as well as local business and civic leaders and organizations. Roswell Arts Fund was designated as the city’s art agency in December 2015. The Roswell Arts Fund office is located in the Arts Center East Gallery, 9100 Fouts Road, Roswell, GA 30076 (sits adjacent to East Roswell Park). Our website is www.roswellartsfund.org.

In three short years, Roswell Arts Fund has transformed the conversation on the Arts in Roswell. We have Ignited - new ways of thinking about the arts; Inspired new ways of doing art; and Impacting the city of Roswell economically and socially. The Executive Director will be charged with taking Roswell Arts Fund to the next level, by securing implementation and adoption of the Public Art Master Plan completed in 2016 and revenue generation that operationally liberates Roswell Arts Fund from the City of Roswell. As the face of the organization, the Executive Director will maintain and grow relationships in the region including elected officials, city staff, civic and business leaders, sponsors, donors, members, volunteers, educators, artists and arts organizations. This individual will cultivate a deep knowledge of the City and regional Arts organizations. Knowledge of regional programs, amenities, and geography desirable. 

The Executive Director reports to the Roswell Arts Fund Board of Directors with operational guidance from the Executive Committee. This is a full time position, which will allow for some work to be done remotely. Attendance at some early morning and evening meetings will be required. Annual performance objectives and metrics will be identified and evaluated between the Executive Director and the Roswell Arts Fund Board.

A Bachelor’s Degree is required. Post degree credentials and a Master’s degree is preferred. Compensation is competitive based on experience. There are no relocation funds. 

The successful candidate will bring deep skills and experience with startup/emerging organizations; business development/fundraising; demonstrated relationship savvy in building and growing collaborations with business and political sectors and people management. He or she will be self-motivated, a problem solver, organized, adaptable, meet deadlines, manage simultaneous multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and be able to lead, work independently as well as part of a team. The candidate will have strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills. Non-profit experience is required. Experience with arts organizations and public art is preferred. The Executive Director should be able to “hit the ground running”.

Executive Director Responsibilities & Qualifications 

RESPONSIBILITIES and DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE CATEGORIES

ARTS Leadership and Organization 

  • Embody and implement the vision, strategies, and tactics that strengthen and advance the Roswell Arts Fund. 
  • Lead the implementation of contracted categories of Imagine Roswell Arts and Culture 2030 Study and Public Art Master Plan completed in 2016
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to optimize impact of the Roswell Arts Fund. 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in arts administration.

Advocacy

  • In coordination with the Board of Directors and Staff Partners, serves as a key Roswell Arts Fund spokesperson and proactively advocates and promotes the Roswell Arts Fund by igniting, inspiring, and educating elected officials, city staff, civic and business leaders, sponsors, donors, members, volunteers, educators, artists and arts organizations. This will include attending key local and regional meetings.
  • Working with Marketing to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Establish the work of Roswell Arts Fund as a leader in the arts in the region.
  • Demonstrate excellent people skills and strong client/stakeholder service ethos. 
  • Work effectively with marketing professionals to effectively promote the Roswell Arts Fund through well designed advertising and branding.

Comprehensive Business Development/Fundraising Strategy 

  •  Work with the Board and Staff Partners to create, sustain and grow reliable revenue that will sustain and expand Roswell Arts Fund. The business development/ fundraising plan will define annual financial goals to include individuals, business, grants and foundations

Board of Directors 

  • Present monthly written reports to the Board about the status of agreed upon objectives, finances, staff partners, donor/sponsor base and other relevant issues at regularly scheduled meetings. In person presentation updates alternating with email updates on the state of Roswell Arts Fund activities.

Staff Partners and Volunteers

  • Create a positive working environment that motivates and encourages staff partners and volunteers
  • Provide oversight to staff partners to optimize organizational excellence.
  • Recruit new staff partners as indicated.
  • Recruit, grow, retain, and recognize volunteer/intern base.

Financial Management 

  • Work with the treasurer and book keeper to maintain accurate financial records and documentation to ensure accurate accounting and compliance with all relevant legal and fiscal practices (federal, state and local regulations) of a non-profit corporation.

  • Six current/former Roswell Arts Fund/Commission members completed ALMA (Arts Leaders of Metro Atlanta) program administered by the Atlanta Regional Commission and Metropolitan Arts Fund
  • A seat on the Fulton County Arts Commission (2015 - 2017) 
  • Engagement with local arts leaders (Sandy Springs, Suwanee, Gwinnett County, Fulton County Arts, Augusta, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Carrolton, Marietta); Roswell Arts Fund has provided several tours and foundational public art planning templates to surrounding cities.
