What is the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula?
BGCP provides expanded learning time programs to 2,500 low-income K - 12 students in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City. We have evolved significantly in recent years in response to our youth’s changing needs. When BGCP was founded in 1958, its focus was to keep young people safe and out of trouble. In 2019, safety, while still necessary, is no longer sufficient. Our students need post-secondary education or training to secure living wage employment. Therefore, we have evolved our mission to focus on school success. In addition to providing our students with the safe place, positive relationships, and sense of belonging that all children need, we are helping them develop the academic and life skills they need to succeed in school. Our programs, tightly integrated with the schools, are an extension of the learning day. As we look toward expansion to two new sites, serving 400 additional students per year, our partnerships are strong, and the leaders at each organization aspire to broaden and deepen our collective impact. We can provide all students with access to our continuum of services, from K to 12 to post-secondary, from 8am to 8pm, and in school year and summer. We can make our community a great place for all kids to grow up, but we need staff to do it.

Our budget has grown to $15 million and we employ 200 staff – 70 full-time and 130 part-time – across three clubhouses and nine school sites and continue to grow. Our ability to positively impact our students is wholly dependent upon our ability to recruit and retain highly qualified staff, which has become increasingly difficult in our expensive and highly competitive job market. We need leadership to ensure our Human Capital functions are scaling with our increasing program demands.

While BGCP is affiliated with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we are an independent 501(c)(3) organization with our own Board of Directors and responsible for our own programs and funding.
