Reporting to the Director of the Annual Fund, the Young Alumni/Student Philanthropy & Digital Appeals Specialist has primary responsibility for developing and coordinating appeals through digital tactics and technologies for the Oglethorpe Annual Fund with special emphasis on student and young alumni giving. This position is responsible for building a student philanthropy education program and will strive to foster relationships with students and young alumni. The Specialist will look to advance program metrics in regards to donor retention, reactivation, and acquisition. This position will also oversee the Senior Class Gift Campaign, while working closely with Alumni Relations to cultivate young alumni and increase Annual Fund participation among students and recent graduates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and executes a cultivation and solicitation plan for young alumni (graduates of the last decade)
  • Implements multichannel digital campaigns to increase awareness and donor response for annual fund appeals to support retention, reactivation, and acquisition. This may include: web, email, social media, online giving, crowdfunding, text messaging, and/or giving days
  • Serves as development liaison/lead for the Senior Class Gift Campaign to collaborate with the SGA Senior Class President and committee to boost campaign awareness, plan/execute events as necessary, and to assist in solicitation and stewardship efforts for the current graduating class
  • Manages the student philanthropy program, including creation of events, marketing plans, implementation of the social media strategy, or other outreach that will lead to an increased culture of philanthropy amongst the student body; able to regularly attend and support alumni relations led STAT (Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow) meetings
  • Builds rapport with young alumni in order to cultivate relationships and identify key leaders who will help boost philanthropy awareness as advocates and support annual fund campaigns such as crowdfunding and giving days; able to regularly attend and support alumni relations led YAC (Young Alumni Club) Planning Committee meetings and events geared toward engaging young alumni
  • Attends various campus events to support departmental efforts including, but not limited to: JEO scholarship weekends, alumni board meetings, Alumni Weekend, Carillon Ceremony, Commencement, STAT and YAC events
  • Collaborates with alumni relations, development and other campus partners in order to achieve successful outcomes on tasks, projects, and programs that fall under this position
  • Utilizes existing donor relationship management databases to log communications with alumni; must maintain donor and record confidentiality
  • May be responsible for relationship management of a small portfolio of constituents in the young alumni group and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelors degree with a focus in Management, Marketing, other Business majors or Communications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience (digital marketing, fundraising, alumni relations, and/or student engagement), preferably in an educational setting (internships and/or volunteering may be included)
  • Familiarity with a liberal arts college environment is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills and a working knowledge of a variety of software applications and digital platforms
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills to communicate with a diverse audience of constituents and campus partners; must be responsive and service focused
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include some evenings, weekends, in addition to weekday office hours

This position has an important impact on the successful functionality of the Development and Alumni Relations department. End results and strategic impact shall be measured by the effectiveness of fundraising operations as related to Essential Functions and clearly defined strategic plans, and the advancement of the University as a mission-driven, non-profit institution.
