Grants Manager Description and Duties

The Tennessee Wildlife Federation Grants Manager position is designed to serve the development department of the Federation by directing all aspects of grant based fundraising, as well engage in special projects. This position assists the Chief Development Officer in prospect research and other essential duties.

Reports To: Chief Development Officer

Geographic Area of Work: Based in Nashville with a statewide reach

Responsibilities: The Grants Manager is responsible for working in the following areas to enhance the Tennessee Wildlife Federation’s fundraising activities and other organizational success. Specifically, this position will work in the following areas of focus:

  • All aspects of grant researching, writing and reporting;
  • Direct, administer or otherwise engage in special projects as assigned;
  • Serve as a resource for organizational success.

Duties: The Grant Manager is required to perform the following tasks:

Grants:

  • Research, prioritize, and evaluate prospects for corporate, foundation, and government funding, producing extensive institutional donor profiles and target appropriate ask amounts;
  • Write or supervise writing of all proposals, budgets, reports, and other ancillary materials. Proposals should be clear, concise and compelling;
  • Cultivate relationships with foundations;
  • Create and maintain tracking calendar for all grant deadlines, including letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports to funders on the status of programs/projects and their use of funds.
  • Meet and work with program staff to ensure deliverables and deadlines are being met, as well as collaborate on potential funding priorities;
  • Manage existing grants by developing internal reporting systems, writing reports, maintaining excellent historical records, and working with CFO to ensure funds are spent appropriately and timely;
  • Advise CDO of new grant and other funding opportunities;
  • Serve as point of contact for all grant funders, serving as a liaison between the funder and program staff and/or CDO and CEO.

 

Proposal Writing:

  • Draft and edit funding proposals to private funders and other entities as opportunities arise;
  • Align strategy and messaging of these proposals in coordination with the CDO.

Development Office:

  • Track all fundraising activities, producing timely financial reports for board meetings and as requested by CDO;
  • Collaborate and strategize on potential funding opportunities;
  • Other fundraising duties as assigned.

Special Projects and General:

  • Direct, administer and engage on special projects as they arise;
  • Serve as a resource for and collaborate with administrative and other staff with the aim of sharing intuitional knowledge;
  • Envision and strategize opportunities to expand and innovate the organization as a whole, as well as individual programs and activities.

Key Qualifications: As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of Tennessee Wildlife Federation and be driven by the mission. The candidate will have the following experience and attributes:

  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies;
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research;
  • Experience with budget development and monitoring;
  • Creative ability to write with passion and persuasion;
  • Technical ability to edit written communications;
  • Ability to work independently but also to take direction when needed;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Commitment to confidentiality;
  • Willingness to travel as needed;
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with donor database software. DonorPerfect is preferred, but not required.

  • Results are demonstrated in developing new funding leads and expanding the Federation’s funding base.
  • Adept at managing tasks, projects, information, and materials within a well-ordered system. Ability to handle multiple projects and competing assignments carefully, and within well-established timeframes. Information is maintained systematically, and is easily available. Materials and work areas are orderly.
  • Adept at understanding prescribed project guidelines, implement and oversee design and development, communicate with and manage stakeholders, delivering exceptional results.
  • Communicates effectively and listens to others. Has a mastery of written and grammatical skills, and demonstrated ability to organize, prepare, and present information orally and/or across technological platforms;
  • Keeps supervisor informed and up to date on all matters pertaining to his/her work
  • Participates in all staff meetings
  • Participates in all staff retreats
  • Treats all superiors, peers, and subordinates with respect
  • Follows all procedures and policies contained within the Federation’s Employee Manual
