The Commonwealth Club is the largest and oldest public forum in the United States. Founded in 1903, the Club is a membership organization that hosts daily lectures and panel discussions on issues of public concern. The Club publishes a magazine, hosts a weekly national radio broadcast, produces podcasts and online videos, and is the leader in its field nationally and internationally. The Club is a fast-paced, lively and stimulating environment with nearly 500 programs a year ranging from literature to the economy.

Position Overview
The purview of the development coordinator position encompasses elements of The Commonwealth Club’s individual giving program, including management and stewardship of Leadership Circle donors ($1,000+), raising funds for the annual operating budget through seasonal giving campaigns, coordination of a new endowment campaign, as well as contributing to broader development efforts and activities (sponsored program/receptions, special events, reporting, etc.). The role is an active and contributing member of a five-person development team and reports to the vice president of development.  

Roles and Responsibilities

Individual Giving 
• Maintain and grow a portfolio of 300–400 donors ($1,000+) by developing and implementing strategies for establishing and strengthening these relationships
• Plan and execute bimonthly special receptions for Leadership Circle members (attended by Club speakers)
• Qualify additional prospects on an ongoing basis, using donor research software
• Conduct multiple mailings each month aimed at renewing members and acknowledging recent donors 
• Conduct e-communications with Leadership Circle donors about upcoming high-profile programs 
• Create and send communications to Leadership Circle members aimed at providing notice about exciting upcoming events  
• Collaborate with Development on various department initiatives, including sponsored events, annual gala and special events  
• In collaboration with Membership department, oversee and implement special fundraising campaigns Giving Tuesday, Season of Giving, Day of Giving and End of Fiscal Year Giving campaigns (direct mail, email and social media channels)  
• Collaborate cross-departmentally to identify programmatic opportunities relevant to Leadership Circle donors  
• Collaborate with Membership department on cross-over activities and projects 

Endowment Campaign 
• Support the president & CEO and vice president of development, and a volunteer committee, to raise funds from individuals, corporations and foundations for an endowment campaign of $15 million
• Work closely with Club leadership, the Board of Governors, and committee volunteers to ensure they have appropriate prospect assignments and are making progress in their fundraising efforts 
• Arrange donor cultivation events 
• Produce and maintain campaign materials for Club leadership and the Board of Governors to use in their solicitation efforts 
• Conduct multiple mailings each month aimed at invoicing current donors with outstanding pledges and acknowledging recent donors 
• Manage the implementation of donor recognition signage

Development Department Support 
• Collaborate on and contribute to department projects as needed, including but not limited to proposal and partnership cultivation and execution with institutional funders, special events (Annual Distinguished Citizen Award Gala, Blue Angels party), new initiatives, etc.

Education and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or four years of experience in a related position
• Demonstrated success with individual fundraising, including direct solicitation experience
• Knowledge of fundraising principles and experience in successful relationship-building with prospects, donors, volunteers and board members
• Outstanding time management and analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple fundraising activities and initiatives at one time
• Highly motivated, flexible, resourceful, well-organized and detail-oriented
• Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication and presentation skills
• Demonstrated record of setting and achieving goals and meeting deadlines
• A team player with integrity and follow-through
• Demonstrated ability to manage and/or interact with all levels of stakeholders
• Meticulous attention to detail and an aesthetic eye in reviewing fundraising materials
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel, etc.).

Desirable Qualifications
• Knowledge of Bay Area philanthropic landscape
• Proficiency with donor database software such as Raiser’s Edge is preferred
• Familiarity with other components of development and fundraising 
• Experience working with a committee of volunteers  
• Ability to quickly pick up new software and supportive technologies (Trello, Airtable, BBNC, Slack)
