JVS, Jewish Vocational Service, lifts people out of poverty onto career pathways through targeted skills training and strategic employer partnerships in healthcare, technology and public utilities. JVS works with over 2500 people a year, from throughout the Bay Area, and helps them build skills and make connections for good jobs.  With a budget of $12 million and a diverse funding base, JVS has close partnerships with private, public and corporate funders.  We’re at an exciting inflection point, as we evaluate our current strategy and design a new strategic plan that addresses changes in the economy, the future of work and the first major leadership transition in 35 years.

What will you do? You will be leading efforts to support JVS’s strategy, mission and clients by securing funding through private, corporate and public sources.  You’ll be writing proposals directly and will also direct the Grants Team on funding strategies, cultivation and grant development to grow and sustain JVS initiatives, and achieve our impact of moving people into family-sustaining jobs.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills
  • Strategic thinking, able to conceptualize, lead and execute complex projects and effectively convey their impact to various audiences
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Strength in collaboration as part of a team to move projects forward in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding research, analytical skills
  • Outstanding partnership development skills
  • Success in persuasive writing and experience developing complex communications projects
  • Demonstrated success in grant funding
  • Experience directing, motivating, developing and supervising staff and/or contractors

It would also be great if you have:

  • Grant proposal writing, with success securing foundation, state and federal grants of at least $500k
  • M.S./M.A. in Public Policy, Planning, Social Work, Education or 3-4 years of relevant experience
  • Program and business development and grant proposal writing in an employment, human service or educational setting
