TITLE: Birthright Israel Community Fellow

CATEGORY: Full-time, Exempt

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to serve as the Birthright Israel Community Fellow to lead transformative trips and experiences to Israel. The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled organizer with significant experience in project management, communication, and leadership.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

       Birthright Trip Management

  • Work year-round to identify, recruit and engage potential participants and staff members for the 2-3 Atlanta-based Birthright Israel trips
  • Serve as lead trip staff on up to 3 Birthright Israel trips per year
  • Prepare trip staff by delivering pre-trip curriculum and educating trip staff on JFGA’s Birthright Israel Alumni Network and programs
  • Partner with Israel Outdoors (Atlanta’s Birthright Israel trip provider) to interview and screen participants and plan the community trips
  • Handle all pre-trip communication with participants including maintaining Facebook groups with relevant updates, hosting and facilitating a pre-trip orientation for Atlanta-based participants, and fielding all questions of participants and parents until time of departure
  • Coordinate post-trip reunions
  • Create meaningful and authentic ways for young adults to engage with Israel and throughout the community so that Israel engagement extends beyond the Birthright trip

       Volunteer Management

  • Identify Birthright alumni to serve on the Birthright Israel Alumni Engagement Committee which serves to advocate for community involvement for Jewish young adults through creative programming and experiences
  • Hold quarterly meetings for committee and hold committee members accountable for playing an active role in supporting post-trip engagement
  • Maintain relationships with committee members and other key Federation volunteer leadership

       Community Engagement

  • Develop a robust Birthright Israel alumni network and provide post-Birthright engagement experiences for young Jewish adults in Atlanta
  • Oversee Passport and Micro Grant Programs which gives participants funds to participate in Jewish life after Birthright and empowers Birthright alumni to create their own Jewish engagement experiences by offering funding and guidance for creating and hosting events
  • Recruit Birthright alumni as volunteers to assist in execution of local program and education initiatives (DIY initiatives, Israel education, trip recruitment and eligibility interviews)
  • Track and evaluate grant related programs and share data with the Birthright Israel Foundation
  • Focus on developing a robust and dynamic recruitment model and building out on the ground Israel experiences for Birthright trips
  • Focus on Israel partnerships, content opportunities, and micro grants for Birthright alumni looking to go back to Israel for a meaningful experience

       General Organizational Support

  • Provide support for a variety of Federation and community-wide programs and initiatives
  • Remain knowledgeable about Jewish life and engagement trends in and out of the Atlanta community
  • Serve as an advocate for Federation’s mission and work at all times
  • Support duties as assigned

       Professional Development

  • Participate in a variety of professional development opportunities provided by Federation, Birthright Israel, partner and outside organizations
  • Work closely with other Federation professionals to understand how role works in tandem with other departments and processes
  • Through creation of individualized professional development plan, work to develop skillset to take on additional projects and responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree, knowledge of the Atlanta Jewish community, and a basic understanding of young adult trends and preferences required. Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to learn database systems, experience with Microsoft Office Suite and spreadsheets. Must have valid State of Georgia Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance. Must possess and maintain valid passport. Experience with volunteer management, relationship building, social media marketing, and event planning and promotion preferred. Experience with group facilitation and/or public speaking helpful, involvement in Jewish camps or community programs and Israel experience helpful.

TRAVEL:  Position requires international travel.  Must be able and willing to travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires intermittent standing, walking, and prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk/table. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
