Company

Mission: ETC makes the joy and challenge of outdoor adventures accessible to people with disabilities and under-resourced youth, inspiring self-confidence, connection to nature, and stewardship of the environment.

Founded in 1972 by three river rafting guides, Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC) began offering whitewater rafting trips to disadvantaged youth and people with disabilities on California’s Stanislaus River in the Sierra foothills. Since our early beginnings, we have expanded to include sea kayaking, cross-country skiing, and youth leadership programs. ETC is a national pioneer in the field of accessible outdoor adventures and is respected as the largest and oldest organization of its kind in California.

ETC believes that everyone, regardless of physical or financial limitations, should have the opportunity to experience the challenge and beauty of the wilderness.

Through ETC adventures, our participants overcome external barriers and perceived limitations, attain greater personal freedom and confidence, and better understand themselves in relation to others and the environment.
