The Commonwealth Club is the largest and oldest public forum in the United States. Founded in 1903, the Club is a membership organization that hosts daily lectures and panel discussions on issues of public concern. The Club publishes a magazine, hosts a weekly national radio broadcast, produces podcasts and online videos, and is the leader in its field nationally and internationally. The Club is a fast-paced, lively and stimulating environment with nearly 500 programs a year ranging from literature to the economy.

Position Overview
The Commonwealth Club seeks an individual with 1–3 years of experience in a staff accountant role to become a member of the accounting team and work closely with the senior accountant. The staff accountant will be primarily responsible for assisting with the monthly financial close, processing all payables and receivables accounts. Our ideal candidate is someone who is positive, proactive, knowledgeable and open to expanding their professional skills.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Day-to-day bank transaction entry and end-of-month bank reconciliation
• Accounts payable: timely and accurate bill coding and payment; following up with departments to collect invoices and tracking recurring expenses
• Accounts receivable: coordinating with revenue departments to issue invoices and collect payment
• Reviewing and processing employees’ expenses reimbursement reports
• Reviewing and recording monthly credit card expenses, following up with departments for coding and receipts
• Fixed-asset tagging and coding
• Reviewing day-to-day cash receipts and weekly cash deposits
• Managing book and bar sales revenues and allocating expenses to appropriate programs
• Integral involvement with month-end closing
• General administrative work as needed

Education and Experience Requirements
• Minimum of one to three years of work experience as a staff accountant or equivalent
• Bachelor’s degree
• Attention to detail 
• Ability to work independently and also as part of a collaborative team
• High ethical standards with demonstrated experience handling highly sensitive and confidential information
• Excellent written and communication skills, multi-tasking, and time-management skills
• Hands-on experience with Excel, including pivot tables and other advanced functions

Desirable Qualifications
• Familiarity with Sage Intacct, Square, Microsoft Office apps, Google Docs, and other business apps and software
• Nonprofit experience is desirable
