The Spahr Center is Marin’s non-profit community agency devoted to serving, supporting and empowering our LGBTQ community- from youth to seniors- and everyone in the county living with and affected by HIV. Programs and services include community events and social activities, discussion and support groups, cultural competency training, counseling and therapy, HIV case management, benefits advocacy, food, and nutrition, HIV testing, prevention, and needle exchange. The Spahr Center was created in 2014 from the merger of the Spectrum LGBT Center and the Marin AIDS Project, both formed in 1982. The agency currently has a budget of $875,000 and a staff of 7 full-time and 9 part-time people.
The Board of Directors seeks a visionary and effective leader with a demonstrated record of success in community building, program design, and oversight, development, communications, administrative management, and advocacy.
Qualifications
4 or more years of non-profit management
Demonstrated capacity to lead all aspects of a non-profit agency, including strategic planning; program development, implementation, and evaluation; community relations and marketing; staff supervision, skills building and evaluation; development and monitoring of budget, oversight of finance and operations.
Demonstrated success in developing funding streams through individual, government, corporate and foundation sources, as well as planned giving.
Possesses a minimum of five years of direct or indirect supervisory experience.
Proven track record of developing and maintaining authentic and supportive relationships with others.
Ability to establish and maintain strong collaborations with community organizations and leaders.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Job Duties
Vision and Strategic Planning
Works collaboratively with the community, Board of Directors and staff to establish the vision of The Spahr Center’s programs and services, and to develop plans that achieve that vision. Embraces The Spahr Center’s mission and develops a vision that leverages our past with strategic opportunities for the future.
Program Oversight
Oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of all agency programs and services to carry out the agency’s mission and vision. Provides reports to the Board of Directors, funders and others describing the results of Spahr Center programs and services.
Community and capacity building
Establishes and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders and potential supporters of the agency. Builds, preserves and embodies a positive image of the values and work of the Spahr Center. Serves as an active and visible representative of the agency in the community. Establishes and maintains relationships with decision-makers, and other strategic allies.
Development
Serves as the chief fundraiser for The Spahr Center. Continually works to grow revenue for the agency from individual, government, corporate and foundation sources, as well as planned giving. Assures adequate agency staffing and Board support to achieve successful fundraising.
Communications
Directs marketing and communications efforts to effectively communicate the mission and impact of The Spahr Center and increase agency support. Engages in public speaking and community outreach with the goal of building support for the agency. Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact constructively with diverse populations and staff.
Staff and volunteer oversight and support
Motivates, deploys, supervises, evaluates and supports all agency employees. Provides for continual skills building and development of staff members. Assures strong Human Resources administration. Assures the presence of a strong volunteer program to support the mission of the agency.
Budget and finance
Works to assure the financial strength of The Spahr Center. Assures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting principles for managing agency finances. Builds an accounting team that assures the thoroughness, accuracy, and integrity of all agency financial activities. Develops manages and monitors an annual operational budget. Ensures that all regulatory and funding reports are prepared and delivered in a timely manner. Delivers reports to the Board of Directors that clearly communicate the financial position of the agency.
Technical/other
Knowledge of Salesforce, Fund Easy and Microsoft strongly desired. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends as needed. Possesses a valid driver’s license and insurance and a reliable car. Travel within Marin County is frequent. Travel outside of Marin occurs infrequently.
