Los Angeles Reproductive Health Equity Project for Foster Youth (LA RHEP)

The Los Angeles Reproductive Health Equity Project for Foster Youth (LA RHEP) is a collective impact campaign housed within NCYL whose goal is to end the inequitable reproductive health outcomes for youth in foster care in Los Angeles county, including disproportionately high rates of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. We focus on the systemic barriers youth face and exist at the intersection of reproductive equity, child welfare, authentic community engagement & youth leadership, policy development & implementation, and evaluation.

LA RHEP is driven by a highly functioning, interdisciplinary Leadership Team comprised of representatives from the following private and public agencies: Alliance for Children’s Rights, Children’s Law Center of California, John Burton Advocates for Youth, Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services, Public Counsel, and Seattle Children’s Hospital. LA RHEP is also served by a Youth Advisory and Caregiver Advisory Board. The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) is the backbone organization for LA RHEP

Position Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, resourceful individual seeking to gain new or additional experience in the social justice sector and to learn how a private-public partnership is supported and facilitated.

The Coordinator will support the implementation of LA RHEP’s work plan in partnership with the LA RHEP Director. This may include communications, project management, evaluation and policy analysis, as well as community engagement work.In addition, the Coordinator will provide administrative support to the LA RHEP Director and work and engage with the LA RHEP Leadership Team, Evaluators, Work Groups, and Youth/Caregiver Advisory Boards. The ideal candidate is a highly organized self-starter with excellent communication skills.

The position is based in Los Angeles, CA.The Coordinator will report to the LA RHEP Director and will be an employee of NCYL.

The Program Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Providing overall support with regard to planning and logistics for quarterly LA RHEP leadership team meetings and monthly work group meetings (e.g., coordinating conference calls, location, setting reminders, managing Google calendar invites)
• Managing projects with multiple deliverables and deadlines, including updating project management software and following up on next steps that come out of meetings
• Regularly tracking progress of work groups and flagging implementation challenges for LA RHEP’s Director
• Writing, editing, and proofreading external and internal materials, including but not limited to: social media web content, e-newsletters, evaluation briefs, etc.
• Supporting the planning and execution of LA RHEP events, including an annual conference, youth convenings, and listening sessions
• Providing logistical and substantive support to the Youth Advisory Board, Caregiver Advisory Board, Health Provider Advisory Board, Social Worker Champions, and others; ensuring community voice is integrated in the project
• Maintaining organization of electronic files on Google drive and SharePoint
• Supporting with office management tasks
• Supporting staff with conference calling, webinar systems, and basic technology needs (computers, cloud server, email, calendar and software);
• Supporting with development/fundraising tasks, including but not limited to: drafting progress reports and project managing the process of submitting proposals
• Representing NCYL and LA RHEP at meetings and events for other related projects and coalitions

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

• A fundamental understanding that, no matter one’s personal, religious, or familial beliefs, young people have sexual & reproductive health rights and deserve to be empowered to exercise them

• Commitment to the mission and goals of NCYL and LA RHEP
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
• Strong project management skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail
• Demonstrated ability to successfully execute multiple projects with diverse stakeholders on time
• Computer proficiency and ability to learn new technology and explain them to others
• Flexibility and the ability to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated youth engagement skills and experience working with young people of Color from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including LGBTQ+, involvement in foster care and/or juvenile justice systems, etc.
• Ability to maintain relationships with a cross-sector range of stakeholders in Los Angeles
• Commitment to the collective impact concept
• Familiarity with child welfare and/or reproductive health, rights, and/or justice
• Experience drafting and submitting grant reports and/or proposals

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time position in Los Angeles, California. This is a non-exempt position with a salary of $60,000. NCYL provides health, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long-term disability, vacation and sick benefits, and an employer contribution to a retirement plan.
