The Activities Lead Support assists with planning and implements the daily activities within the facility; including any necessary scheduling, networking and/or compiling the materials for completion of the activities; works closely with other Administrative Staff.

Activities are created for the teaching, mentoring and supporting of each individual served in a way that honors and respects their own preferences and needs. Our strength stems from our person centered approached that permits us a collaboration of talent from a diverse group of professionals. Activities Lead Support are encouraged to develop and employ critical and creative thinking skills, empowering them to resolve challenges and develop enriching activities. This fosters a sense of ownership and joint accountability for the Activities Lead Support and the staff.

Activities Lead Support / Activities Coordinator must be willing to commit to the ongoing creation and facilitation of activities that includes managing individual and group activities within the Team Room(s), facility and within the community, local businesses, cultural and/or recreational venues, etc. Able to employ critical thinking skills to solution any impromptu events/incidents during the commission of activities is imperative. These activities are to promote independence, socialization and community integration while increasing the physical, social, mental and emotional activity of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It requires an individual who is creative, committed to quality service delivery, preparation and planning, along with a strong sense of compassion, a willingness to work as a team member and when necessary lead the team. This rewarding position requires consistent growth, planning of activities and communication with all staff members for the enrichment of individuals served. PROVEN EXPERIENCE IS NECCESSARY.

Responsibilities:

Minimum duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Create activities that embrace culture, enrichment, entertainment and daily living skills for individuals with various ambulatory, intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Assess activities for those with ambulation issues and develop proper techniques and/or equipment to ensure inclusion in activities.
  • Speak clearly and passionately to individuals served, answer questions and keep all individuals and staff motivated.
  • Train staff on the implementation of the activities and provide insight to how to modify the activity for individuals with various impairments.
  • Communicate with staff for a seamless implementation of activities and ancillary activities.
  • Facilitate and supervise the implementation of activities in the community and at the facility. Ensure that all activities begin and end on time.
  • Encourage individuals to participate in recreational social activities so that all individuals are involved in activities by engaging in and organizing games, crafts, role plays, community activities, pre -vocational skills and parties, etc.
  • Assess the rate of success of activities
  • Plan community integration activities, i.e., movies, outdoor events (i.e., yoga in the park), in-house events (i.e., town hall meetings)
  • Create a monthly activities calendar and ensure materials are readily available for completion of activities
  • Complete documentation on individuals, i.e., daily activities, behavior and interaction with others, etc.,
  • Network with community associates for activities that prompt community integration
  • Follow principles of infection control and prevention
  • Attend all meetings as required.
  • Record any safety issues within the facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Personality:

  • This individual must be a creative, exciting, high energy individual who can work well with people and be able to change gears at any time.
  • should be a leader with a pleasant demeanor and good decision-making skills; and must have a cooperative attitude at all times with individuals served.

Requirements:

  • Must have proven experience creating and implementing activities with individuals with various levels of competency, including but not limited to intellectual and developmental disabilities, and/or various levels of ambulation.

  • Must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must be able to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with other staff.
  • Must be in good general heath and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, move and manipulate at least 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of the facility and support staff with the injured during evacuation procedures.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred education: AA Degree in Recreational Therapy or related Human Service field, or relevant activity certification.
  • Ability to meet state and Federal requirements.
  • REQUIRED: 1-2 years of experience in implementing program activities, preferably for individuals with developmental disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification, preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to network for community integration
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers, parents, caregivers, providers and individuals served.
  • Exceptional organizational, time and project management skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, establish priorities appropriately and exercise effective independent judgment.
  • Technological literacy; proficiency with MS Office.
