Based in Atlanta, GA, the American College of Rheumatology is a professional association for physicians, rheumatology professionals and scientists that work in the medical subspecialty of rheumatology. The ACR has over 9,400 members from around the world. We offer a variety of services, including: educational programming, legislative advocacy, and practice management support and grant funding through the Rheumatology Research Foundation. POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
This position is charged with the responsibility of managing the ARP membership (i.e., manage the processing, customer service, and development of membership and its activities), the work of the ARP Membership & Nominations Committee (i.e., manage award and volunteer recruitment and retention), and the ARP Practice Committee.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As staff liaison to the ARP Membership & Nominations Committee, responsible for administration of their current work and programs, including minutes, meeting/conference call coordination, officer and committee chair selection process, volunteer application process, volunteer rosters, Merit and Appreciation Award selection process, Graduate Student Award selection process, award/plaque order, award posters, committee evaluation process, and award/volunteer marketing
- As staff liaison to the ARP Practice Committee, responsible for administration of current and future work and programs, including minutes, meeting/conference call coordination, project communication/coordination with ACR staff/vendors, maintenance of current practice tools/products, and coordination of future practice tools/products and educational offerings.
- Coordinate all ARP annual meeting networking events (i.e., discipline round table networking lunch, topic roundtable networking lunch, first time attendee orientation, etc.) and ARP award presentations.
- Responsible for managing the ARP membership, including:
- Coordinate and manage the ARP membership mailings/e-mails (e.g. monthly dues notices & non-renewal letter/survey)
- Coordinate preparation, development, and implementation of new marketing ideas and campaigns for member recruitment and retention (i.e., ARP tweets, Facebook postings, articles/house advertisements to The Rheumatologist, Rheumatology Morning Wire, AC&R Journal advertisements, including schedule coordination/development with ACR Communications & Marketing staff and article/content creation/editing when necessary.
- Handle entry of new members once application has been received by ACR Accounting – includes data entry, e-mailing member’s user name/password, working with ACR Accounting staff in processing and fulfilling membership payments and purchase orders, and creating ACR Board of Directors new member report or other membership reports
- Process requests for membership information, maintain supply of membership related literature, and assemble/mail new member packets.
- Assist in researching and resolving membership requests and questions (e.g. members not receiving journal, filling requests for membership applications, etc.) and helping maintain and update the ARP members within the ACR membership database
- Coordinate ARP portion of annual ACR Membership Directory, which includes content creation and proofing.
- Work with ARP Executive Director on annual membership and nomination/award budgets.
- Assist at the Annual Scientific Meeting as assigned
- Some overnight and weekend travel as required to fulfill job responsibilities
- Knowledge of ARP/ACR organizational policies and procedures.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the ARP Executive Director and the ACR Executive Vice President.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and three years or more of related experience, with preference to non-profit experience.
- Knowledge of membership processing, management, marketing, and recruitment, with ability to formulate ideas/solutions, solve problems, interact with varied individuals, and keep team members on task.
- Must have ability to set priorities, work independently, and manage the pressure of multiple projects and deadlines.
- Detail oriented, with excellent organizational and editing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and professionally with a wide variety of individuals (ACR/ARP staff, members, vendors, et al.)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Extensive experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and the Internet.
- Experience working with association membership database platforms.
- Some travel required.
