The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) is a worldwide, private, volunteer- based, non-profit military aid society with over a century of service to Navy and Marine Corps personnel and their families. Headquartered in the Ballston area of Northern Virginia, NMCRS has 180 employees and an annual budget of $69M.
Under the guidance and general direction of the President/CEO, the chief fundraising and communications officer is responsible for the development and administration of a broad fundraising and communications program designed to maximize fundraising and public awareness. NMCRS’ bylaws require this position be filled by a retired member of the US Navy or Marine Corps, or by the spouse of a retired member of the Navy or Marine Corps.
To be considered for this position a candidate must have a BS or BA from an accredited college or university with a concentration in non-profit management, business or communications. The successful candidate must also possess at least five (5) years’ experience as a senior manager with strategic planning, project management and budgeting experience. The ability to build mutually beneficial relationships to ensure philanthropic efforts are in alignment with other Society efforts, goals and objectives. Demonstrate the ability to foster a collaborative team-oriented working environment with colleagues and between NMCRS HQ and field offices and have exemplary organizational, written & verbal communication skills. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites software, and other computer software, is required.
Desired attributes and skills include: Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification, experience in fundraising, including annual giving campaigns, major gifts and planned giving programs, as well as cultivation of business and corporate donors. Starting salary for this position is $129k per year, plus benefits.
