The Wade Institute for Science Education (formerly MITS) is a not-for profit corporation whose mission is to promote the teaching of participatory, inquiry-based science, mathematics and technology/engineering education at the K-12 levels in partnership with museums and other non-profit organizations. The Wade Institute provides professional learning programs and resources for K-12 formal and informal educators. 

The Director of Education administers and maintains the Wade Institute’s programs, supervises education staff and assists with developing new initiatives.  This is a full-time position based in Quincy, MA with some travel throughout Massachusetts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer and manage:
    • Professional Development programs for K-12 educators including Professional Development Institutes
    • Professional Development Seminar Series 
    • Customized Professional Learning Services
    • Focus Workshops
  • Organize and present professional development workshops, conference presentations and other opportunities for teachers, museum educators and informal educators
  • Oversee the Wade Institute’s collaboration with partners to coordinate logistics, registration, marketing and record keeping for Professional Development Institutes and workshops
  • Supervise the Wade Institute Education Staff 
  • Market and promote programs and resources 
  • Assist with grant writing and budgeting for education programs
  • Serve as the Wade Institute’s representative to state and regional STEM education networks and professional associations
  • Maintain relationships with institutions of higher education for graduate credit for the Wade Institute’s programs
  • Assist with other office tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in education, science or related field
  • Experience providing professional development for in-service teachers
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts Science and Technology/Engineering Framework and/or NGSS
  • Experience working with school administrators
  • Formal and/or informal teaching experience using inquiry based, hands-on methods
  • At least 2 years program management experience 
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Familiarity with Schoology or other on-line learning platform a plus
  • Willingness to travel to meetings throughout MA 

Salary:  Commensurate with experience
