The Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) project is seeking a Financial Analyst.

 

Reporting directly to the Senior Financial Analyst, the Financial Analyst’s main responsibility will provide the overall financial support to Finance Team which includes maintaining and uploading financial report in the Share Point and in IMARS, analyzing and initiating request for reclassifications to correct accounting coding errors, assisting in generating the financial reports, supporting the Senior Financial Analyst in generating financial analyses and other financial reports requested by the donor.

 

The Sustaining Technical and Analytical Resources (STAR) is a five-year cooperative agreement implemented and managed by the Public Health Institute in partnership with John Hopkins University, the University of California San Francisco and the Consortium of Universities in Global Health. STAR will improve the effectiveness of global health programs worldwide by developing and strengthening the capacity of global health professionals. Leveraging the expertise, resources, and partnerships of academic institutions and the private sector, STAR will also contribute to building the capacity of institutions in developing countries that provide technical leadership and to improving systems that promote technical collaboration across the global health community.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

•Assist in generating monthly/quarterly financial reports and analyses including projections as required by USAID: Baseline Report, Core & Field Support, Quarterly Travel Expenditures Summary and other financial report for the review by the Senior Financial Analyst and to be summited to Director of Finance for distribution to USAID.

•Assist with special project within Finance team requiring finance support such as summarizing and analyzing complex data in a Pivot Table.

•Participate and contribute to development of automated financial reporting tools using Excel spreadsheet and using Microsoft Excel logical functions: IF, IFERROR, AND, OR as well as VLOOKUP to produce financial forecast and pipeline projections

•Input and reconcile funds obligated to date to ensure funds are allocated appropriately by numerous funding sources: CORE, Bureaus, and Field Support.

•Reconcile and analyze monthly program allocable costs.

•Maintain and coordinate the new activity accounts startups, generate new activity number for newly hired fellows, interns, Foreign Service Nationals (FSN) and closure for multiple activity numbers.

•Reconcile monthly transaction detail report and perform Excel V-lookup summary, export

financial report using exported PeopleSoft data for analyses and to prepare journal entries for the purpose of reclassification.

•Reconcile accounting log entries, manage edits entries as requested by other teams and perform reclassification if necessary.

•Compile overseas insurance monthly project travel reports and manage the periodic distribution activity and submit quarterly reclassification.

•Support finance team in updating and uploading financial report

•Correctly input financial data in IMARS using Excel spreadsheet monthly/quarterly financial report

•Export and analyze participant data

•Generate monthly Concur Travel Pivot report

•Perform other related finance duties as assigned.

•Process program recurring invoices, if necessary, perform cost allocation spreadsheet and reconcile using IMARS current data and monitor payment status.

•Support Global Operations Team in processing participant related service vendors invoices.

•Reconciles the monthly Wells Fargo credit card statements; research and resolve discrepancies and issues.

•Triage STAR Finance inbox on weekly basis and check correctness for activity code and account code of the incoming payment requests.

•Upload monthly financial report to IMARS and Share Point.

•Assign Activity Numbers for new fellows/Interns.

•Backstop Sr. Financial Analyst.

•Bi-coastal event planning and coordination: assist DC admin team with logistics such as all staff meeting caterings, birthday cards.

•Handle admin functions for new staff orientation in Oakland and visiting DC staff while in Oakland.

•Open, sort and distribute incoming correspondence including faxes, handle bi-coastal shipping needs in Oakland and monthly office supplies order.

•Office setup and office Inventory if needed.

•Perform other Oakland admin duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration or other relevant disciplines.

•2 years of related experience

•Requires basic knowledge of Finance and Accounting typically obtained through formal education

•Prior finance and accounting experience may substitute for the formal education

•Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications using spreadsheet, working ability to building Pivot Tables reports, VLOOKUP query, IF statement, etc.

•Thorough understanding of financial concepts and analysis

•Experience in use of ERP or other financial applications.

•Excellent analytical and mathematical skills

•Excellent deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills

•Great attention-to-detail, organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills

•Good written and verbal communication skills

•Good presentation skills

•Flexibility and adaptability

•This is a full time (40 hours/week) position based in Oakland, CA.
