The Center for Popular Democracy & CPD Action (CPD/A) work together to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. About the Position:

The Center for Popular Democracy & CPD Action (CPD/A) is seeking a full-time Director of Budget and Planning who will drive the organizational budgeting process in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team and program leads. The Director of Budget and Planning will work closely with the Finance Team, which takes the lead on accounting functions, preparing financial statements, and providing oversight and internal controls. The Director of Budget and Planning will take the lead on developing and tracking organizational and programmatic budgets and will drive planning conversations based on forecasted fundraising and spending. The Director of Budget and Planning will also work closely with the Development Team on grant budgets and revenue projections. This role will report to the Chief Operating Officer.

Primary Responsibilities

The Director of Budget and Planning will:

  • Lead the Executive Team and Senior Leadership Team meetings regarding responsible stewardship of financial resources

  • Collaborate with Director of Finance on preparing for and participating in meetings with board members and audit committee members regarding financial health

  • Analyze budget variances and develop communications and tactics to control variance

  • Collaborate with the Finance Team on internal controls, particularly as related to budgeting and spending

  • Report on budget implications of potential programs, projects, and other decisions to decision-makers

  • Meet with program managers and department leaders to review budget and financial information

  • Work with the Development Team and program managers to develop detailed budgets for funding proposals and to track and report on grant spending.

  • Manage the budget calendar to keep all stakeholders on track

Job Requirements

  • At least 8 years experience in progressive non profit, community organizing, or political campaigns and at least 5 years experience managing budgets;

  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and practices,  tax issues for nonprofit organizations, and political campaign compliance issues;

  • Demonstrated commitment to social, racial and economic justice;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and sophisticated diplomacy;

  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills;

  • Attention to detail as well as the big picture;

  • Ability to work well independently and to drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days per year, 10 sick days per year, 12 paid holidays per year, and contributions to individuals’ 401K plans.
