Friends of Refugees’ Youth Programs works to nurture the development, skills and talents of youth and their families towards living an abundant life in a flourishing community. We focus on meeting youth where they are and equipping them with the resources they need to become all they were created to be.  We capitalize on out-of-school time with our summer and school year programming encompassing mentoring, tutoring, and summer camp. In 2018 we engaged over 300 youth in grades K-12 in building academic, social, and work readiness skills.

Position Purpose

The Director of Youth Programs leads the team responsible for growing successful engagement with youth in Clarkston, Georgia. The Director is responsible for providing vision and strategy, hiring and developing a qualified team, and contributing to the development and deployment of initiatives aligned with Friends of Refugees’ mission, vision and values. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Essential Job Functions:

Leadership

Positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interest of Youth Program participants.

  • Ensure leadership style creates a culture where every team member feels respected, valued and heard.
  • Lead team by providing growth and development opportunities, coaching and feedback.
  • Set clear goals and expectations for team members ensuring each understand their role and responsibilities.
  • Recruit, interview and select qualified individuals for full-time, part-time, and internship positions.
  • On-board new team members ensuring a robust orientation to Friends of Refugees and its programs and provide appropriate and timely training for their roles.
  • Collaborate with other Program Directors and Friends of Refugees leaders in developing, communicating, and implementing overall organization strategies and initiatives.
  • Implement Friends of Refugees’ human resources policies, procedures and practices.

Daily Operations

Provide organization and exercise decision-making and problem solving skills to ensure daily operations run smoothly and effectively.

  • Assist team in planning and managing programs by providing clear and timely direction, input, and feedback.
  • Ensure the team has the necessary resources to effectively implement high quality programs.
  • Develop and execute an annual budget and operating plan for Youth Programs.
  • Communicate with program participants, their families, and other community stakeholders to engage their support for and solicit input to improve the program.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Volunteer Engagement to recruit and involve volunteers.
  • Coordinate efforts across Youth Programs activities for the benefit of participants and effective use of resources.
  • Monitor, measure, and evaluate Youth Programs activities on a regular basis and implement changes as appropriate to improve outcomes for program participants.
  • Ensure that program activities operate within Friends of Refugees’ policies and procedures.

Development and Fundraising

Work with the Friends of Refugees development team to seek and obtain robust financial support for Youth Programs.

  • Develop funding plans and proposals for Youth Programs.
  • Develop and implement an ongoing communication plan with volunteers, financial supporters, funding organizations, and other supporters and stakeholders of Youth Programs in collaboration with Friends of Refugees’ development team.
  • Represent the program in presentations, engagement activities, community events, and other Friends of Refugees activities to engage supporters, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Surround the program with a growing cohort of advocates and donors who will work together for its success, including individuals, churches, foundations, corporate partners, and other non-profits.

Strategic Planning

Determine strategies to move Youth Programs forward, set goals, create and implement action plans, and evaluate the process and results.

  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Develop a program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement forms and records to document program activities, outputs, and outcomes.

  • Lead: Possess maturity to appropriately blend the achievement of desired program results with the culture and heart of the organization and community to maximize impact.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3 or more years’ experience in nonprofit program leadership
  • University degree with relevant courses of study
  • Experience and study in youth development, human development, social service delivery, youth education or related topics
  • Experience with learning and utilizing computer and social media applications for communication and program management, analysis, and reporting.
  • Experience soliciting individual and organization donors and advocates to grow and resource specific programming.
