The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Development Officer for the College of Arts & Letters on the Dahlonega campus. Reporting to the Vice President for University Advancement, the Development Officer is responsible to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors (individuals, corporations, foundations) for major gifts and planned giving, as appropriate to support the College of Arts & Letters and the University of North Georgia. Working with the Dean, he/she will identify individuals and entities for the purpose of raising funds in support of the college and university. This work will be primarily conducted away from the office; extensive travel is required. Timely submission of reports is a critical component of this job, and will be evaluated on a regular basis, as will quality of work and dollars raised.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities: The Development Officer for the College of Arts & Letters will:

  • Work in close cooperation with the Dean of the College of Arts & Letters and the Vice President for University Advancement, the development officer will maintain active, ongoing relationships with one or more units/programs within the College of Arts & Letters to ensure maximum effectiveness of fundraising efforts, and to keep the Development team aware of resources, needs, projects and funding opportunities within the college
  • Travel as necessary to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward donors and prospective donors (individuals, corporations, foundations) for gift and grants as appropriate to support the College of Arts & Letters and the University of North Georgia. Identify donors for referral to other solicitors (president, vice president, dean, etc.) and steward those relationships. Operate in partnership with University Advancement staff to plan and execute events, record and manage information, and manage assignments in pursuit of identified goals.
  • Plan and organize work and travel schedules, according to established priorities and fundraising goals, and within established budget guidelines. This may include donor research, development of action plans, etc.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports of expenditures, contact information, and program outcomes.
  • Actively participate in scheduled Development team meetings for professional development, reporting and planning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must have thorough understanding of a development operation in a complex environment, including demonstrated proficiency with cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and stewardship implementation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and see projects through to a timely completion with strict attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with high level university administrators, faculty, donors, alumni, parents, and volunteers.
  • Must be flexible with work schedule and available to work weekends and evenings when necessary.

Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum three years of professional fundraising, non-profit, education, or corporate experience
  • Awareness and appreciation of the liberal arts culture within a comprehensive university setting is preferred.
  • Current driver’s license
