The CCYA Finance Director is the only staff in the Finance Department and works closely with the Director of Human Resources and Chief Advancement Officer (Development) and reports to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer. The position serves on the staff Leadership Team and the Board Finance Committee and manages all agency activities related to finance from budgeting, monitoring accounts, and paying bills, to preparing activity reports and investigating ways to improve spending and saving. State Cost Report training is required and will be provided upon hire.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to analyzing and reporting the financial performance to Management and Board of Directors (financial performance, projections and other special projects as required); Overseeing audit and tax functions; Coordinating activities with outside audit firms; Preparing short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties; Completing State Financial “Cost Reports” in accordance with state contract; Processing payroll through payroll company; Tracking full time employee paid time off;  Developing, implementing and maintaining accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting; Collaborating with the Director of Human Resources to enroll employee benefits, retirement plans, insurance and related activities; and Supporting Development Team (especially Grants Manager) in providing financial information and projections for grant proposals and grant expenditure reports.

Organization & Philosophy: The Center for Children & Young Adults (CCYA) is a 42-bed state licensed child caring institution that provides safe & suitable housing, youth development activities, and comprehensive supportive housing services for at risk homeless youth who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, and/or sexually exploited.

Job Characteristics and Qualifications: The Director of Finance is a full-time position that reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Chief Operating Officer. Qualification as a chartered accountant; Proficiency in all aspects of corporate accounting and all pertinent GAAP, SEC rules and regulations including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance; Experience in working independently and managing a budget of $2-3 million; Knowledge of the industry; Strategic thinking skills; Excellent interpersonal, organization & team-building skills; Excellent conceptualization, problem-solving & project leadership skills; All candidates should have a passion for The Center’s mission, demonstrated effectiveness as a leader, and excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Understanding and/or experience in working in a nonprofit work environment preferred but not required. Additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business and minimum 3 years financial accounting/management experience, preferably with non-profits;
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks Accounting software;
  • Advanced knowledge of process review and simplification, and the application of technology to achieve goals;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, able to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management;
  • Critical thinker with attention to detail, who can seek innovative solutions to complex business/technical issues;
  • Strong multi-tasking, project management, organization, and prioritization skills;
  • Highly proficient with spreadsheet and word processing applications;
  • Positive initiative, mature judgment & results-driven;
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage complex projects, competing priorities and tight deadlines;
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States; no sponsorship provided;
  • Current and valid Georgia Driver’s License;
  • Health Physical, Drug screen, Fingerprint, and additional clearances required for employment.
