About Blanton-Peale Institute & Counseling Center
Blanton-Peale Institute & Counseling Center provides affordable, holistic mental health care in Midtown Manhattan to people representing the full diversity of New York City. It amplifies this impact by training mental health professionals, leaders, and other caring people with the tools of psychology, mental health and spirituality.
In the last 5 years, the Blanton-Peale Counseling Center has grown by 91% and now it is again doubling its impact. In December 2017, Blanton-Peale opened a new second floor, positioning itself to serve an additional 1,550 people each year. Because of the additional space, each year, 3,100 New Yorkers will work with a Blanton-Peale therapist and leave the Counseling Center more hopeful, more resilient, more whole, more the person they were created to be.
Blanton-Peale is also re-enlivening its Psychoanalytic Training Program; a growing Korean Care & Counseling Program now has more than 80 students; and Blanton-Peale’s staff has begun experimenting with “pop-up” and public programs.
During this period of growth and innovation, the goal is not simply a “bigger” Blanton-Peale, but one that is more sustainable, innovative, and addresses today’s most pressing societal challenges – one that is increasingly distinctive within the NYC mental health landscape.
Blanton-Peale was founded in 1937 by internationally renowned Rev. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, author of The Power of Positive Thinking, and the eminent psychiatrist Dr. Smiley Blanton, who trained with Sigmund Freud. Since 1953, it has been treating people of all beliefs, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
