KEY ROLE

The Program Manager for Youth & College-Based Initiatives, is responsible for providing leadership to build and manage partnerships that facilitate programming for young people ages 18+ who are enrolled in colleges/universities/technical schools or other Institutions. The Program Manager will be responsible for scaling up the implementation and success of PEER UP (Peer Education and Encouragement to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy Program) at institutions of higher education around Georgia.  PEER UP, which is part of GCAPP’s college strategy to reach older teens, works to increase linkages to local clinics, increase students’ prevention knowledge and skills, increase advocacy skills and practices, and promote GCAPP’s sexual health app.

In addition, he/she will be responsible for providing support and training with university partners as part of the Pipeline Project, a training program for pre-service teachers majoring in health/physical education who will teach and implement sexual and reproductive health as new teachers. The Program Manager will provide leadership and manage the Youth Advisory Council (YAC), who are young leaders representing counties from across Georgia who inform our work by providing their authentic youth voice to ensure we are meeting the needs of young people. He/she will also serve as the lead staff member in planning and coordinating large and small scale, youth-centric events including the annual GCAPP Youth Empowerment Summit/s. This individual should also be a strong facilitator/trainer/public speaker who is proficient in implementing evidence- based teen pregnancy prevention programs to provide support to GCAPP’s School and Community-Based trainings.    

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Program / Project Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with staff and faculty at colleges, universities and technical schools to expand the GCAPP’s College strategy including the PEER UP program and connect to existing networks and programs on campus
  • Provide training and support to student educators to implement the PEER UP program using best practices for engaging young people ages 18+
  • Develop relationships with local clinics [e.g. Title X, Public Health, FQHCs] to increase resources for young people ages 18+
  • Develop trainings for Peer Educators, Youth Advisory Council members, and other target populations on anatomy, reproductive and sexual health, clinical resources, app and social media promotion, and strategies to advocate for better adolescent and reproductive health services in Georgia

Strategic Partnerships

  • In partnership and under the guidance of the Director of School-Based Initiatives, develop external partnerships to build public will to support GCAPP’s Initiatives including parent engagement, youth empowerment, repeat pregnancy prevention, comprehensive sex education and nutrition and physical activity [i.e. This may include working with Mid-level and Sr. Leadership to develop and strengthen relationships with organizations such as the Georgia PTA, Family Connections Partnerships, the Georgia Department of Public Health, the Georgia Regents Association, Georgia Department of Education, Department of Juvenile Justice etc.]

Administration & Project Management

  • Utilize new media and technology for initiatives
  • Organize and coordinate logistics for the trainings, meetings, and events
  • Document and work with Communications & Marketing to disseminate project results through video, photos, stories and other means
  • Develop needs assessments and surveys to identify program/training needs
  • Project management and budgeting abilities
  • Write and submit monthly reports/updates, interim progress reports and annual report

Training Support and Leadership

  • Conduct research on the latest training techniques or curricula regarding teen pregnancy, HIV, STI prevention, youth development, adolescent health and other relevant topics such as sexual assault, sexual abuse, dating violence and sex trafficking.
  • Demonstrate exceptional training skills in leading large group discussion, group facilitation and managing controversial subject matter using a wide range of training strategies
  • Organize and develop training manuals, reference library, testing, evaluation procedures and other educational materials
  • Provide technical assistance to community-based organizations and school partners to help further the project activities
  • Strong knowledge of relevant theories including adult learning, social learning, stages of change, and diffusion of innovation
  • Provide thought leadership by developing white papers, peer-reviewed manuscripts or reports documenting best practices
  • Performs other duties as assigned

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Public Health or other related fields
  • Demonstrated knowledge in and passion for working with adolescents in teen pregnancy prevention, youth development or another related field
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Health Education/Promotion or other related fields
  • At least 5 years of experience in adolescent sexual and reproductive health
  • Experience working with schools, young people, youth councils, college students, out-of-school youth
  • Self-starter who embraces “out the box” thinking
  • Ability to organize, effectively establish priorities, and manage multiple assignments
  • Track record and experience conducting outreach and developing partnerships with technical schools, colleges and university level partners

Desirable

  • CHES / CPH certified

Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to successfully advise groups of college students and young adults
  • Ability to work flexible schedule during non-traditional hours as needed
  • Ability to travel monthly in state and at out of state as needed
  • Ability to effectively facilitate sex education sessions to young people and adults in a variety of settings e.g. community-based, school-based, university-based
  • Trained as a TOT, TOE on evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention programs e.g. Making Proud Choices, Making a Difference
  • Extensive knowledge of best practices in working with adolescents, college students, and young adults
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of issues around sexual health, reproductive health, sexual violence prevention, Georgia law around adolescent sexual health
  • Experience using innovative strategies e.g. technology to engage young people
  • Strong writer, facilitator with sharp presentation skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office; spreadsheet software and internet software
  • Able to represent School Based Initiatives Director or other Programs staff at meetings / conferences as needed

Desirable

  • Experience linking youth the clinical services
  • Experience working on advocacy initiatives, especially those that involve new media
  • Experience in utilizing and/or developing new technology
  • Able to support grant writing activities
