About the Position

We are seeking a part-time Administrative Associate to focus on the planning, coordination and execution of the logistics of the 2019 Local Progress National Convening, a gathering of 200 local elected officials, policy experts, organizers and advocates, which will take place in Detroit, MI in late July 2019. This is a temporary part-time position. This position will report to a member of CPD’s Local Progress team.

The Center for Popular Democracy promotes equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with 53 partner organizations in 34 states as well as Puerto Rico and D.C. to build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of the event's logistics including liaising with the hotel, catering, A/V, securing off-site locations for components of the program, materials, shipping, transportation, managing participants' hotel reservations and travel reimbursements.

  • Communicate directly with participants leading up to the convening to confirm and manage logistical details.

  • Provide on site support throughout the duration of the meeting.

Qualifications

In this role, organization and people skills are paramount.

  • Effective communication skills. The ability to clearly communicate with Local Progress staff and members especially in fast-paced moments by both email and telephone.

  • Attention to detail. The ability to manage logistics of a complex and multi-faceted event, including a high level of attention to detail, facility with tracking and documenting work thoroughly and the ability to communicate detailed information effectively.

  • Experience working on events of similar scale. Experience providing operational support on at least one conference of similar scale preferred.

We are seeking to fill this position by April 1st. We anticipate that the scope of work described above will take approximately 5 hours per week for the first two months, and between 5-10 hours of week for the final two months. Applicants should be available to staff the event on site in Detroit from July 23-27th.
