About the Position:

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action (CPD/A) is seeking a full-time Development Associate who will be an important part of the Development Team, based in NYC. This position works to support, check quality, and enhance productivity on our Development Department. The candidate will be able to work across diverse teams and workstyles, and will help the organization identify, design, implement and administer systems that make our work flow more efficient. An ideal candidate will care deeply about the mission, have experience working in the progressive funding world, be an excellent copy editor, strong writer/communicator, and enjoy systems.  This is a newly-created position, and we are looking for someone who is eager to jump in, learn quickly, and take initiative.

Primary Responsibilities

The Development Associate will:

  • Copyedit all materials related to marketing - including website, emails, written pieces -- for general CPD work and for program-specific work; grants and prizes; letters; and any other development and communications-related writing. Become the internal “style” and “rules” expert on all writing. As needed, participate in conceptualizing marketing and reporting materials.

  • Track Development-related expenses. Handle and track contracts, invoices, and oversee payments for development staff-related project, including marketing materials that development creates for CPD/A-wide program areas, and related to CPD/A development-related events.

  • Research, create and upload profiles for Development prospects including foundations, individuals and other opportunities (prizes, connectors, etc). Handle interface between research programs and database. Help update monthly development metrics.

  • Do data entry and updates on CPD/A website, update Salesforce records, create campaign fundraising pages and pull mailing and other lists as needed, including in rapid response moments.

  • Take on other special projects & responsibilities as needed.

Job Requirements

Applicants for the Development position should:

  • Possess very strong writing and copyediting abilities, and have strong familiarity with the progressive community, and ideally progressive funders,

  • Show flexibility, a positive attitude, and an ability to deal with many tasks and prioritize while being on top of details, reflecting the fact that CPD and CPDA are large, complex, multi-faceted organizations,

  • Work effectively on a tight schedule and be able to set and meet realistic deadlines,

  • Have excellent communication skills internally and externally,

  • Be a highly professional, a team player willing to take direction and to share opinions in a constructive and teamwork-oriented manner, and a self-starter with strong organizational skills,

  • Show a passion for excellence and eagerness to help the department meet our goals,

  • Possess the ability to organize, plan, prioritize, and perform assigned duties with modest supervision in a fast-paced environment,

  • Show ability to work across multiple infrastructure and programmatic teams, with staff spread across the country, to meet goals,

  • Demonstrate a sense of humor and ability to work under pressure,

  • Have facility with spreadsheets, Microsoft Office suite, database management (ideally Salesforce) to run reports and knowledge of finance and budgeting,

  • Have experience working in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic work environment, and

  • Possess a commitment to racial equity, social justice, and community organizing and see how development work is a core piece of furthering this mission-driven work.

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days per year, 10 sick days per year, 12 paid holidays per year, and contribution to individuals’ 401K plan.
