Title: Advancement and Communications Coordinator

Hours:  Full-time, Monday – Friday

Report to: Director of Advancement

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt, Non-Instructional Staff

Position Description: The Howard School is seeking a creative and organized individual to join its Advancement Team. Under supervision of the Director of Advancement, this individual provides general Advancement Office support and assists with day-to-day tasks related to fundraising campaigns, including constituent communications, special events planning and implementation, community relations, and donor stewardship.  In addition, this individual will collaborate closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to support social media management and the development of print and electronic communications.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning, coordination, and implementation of special events, including donor gatherings and celebrations, volunteer appreciation events, graduations, and other annual schoolwide programs.
  • Lead creation of the school’s Weekly Newsletter working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all items are included in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain and update databases of active community members and alumni families and alumni.
  • Serve as traffic manager for marketing/communication projects working to ensure calendar coordination, project alignment with school priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Implement numerous online, mail, print, and social media communications and campaigns and help maintain the integrity of The Howard School brand. Support the production of bi-annual magazine, website and other communications channels, including writing, editing, proofreading, and photography.
  • Training in Howard School systems will be required and provided. Role will help train other staff members on donor database systems.
  • Photograph school events and maintain and organize photo archives for use by Advancement, Marketing and Communications, and Admissions.
  • Maintain multiple databases of vendors and contacts and advertising calendar.
  • Perform scheduled audits of the website and make updates as needed.
  • Provide general office support.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.

Physical Requirements:

  • Audible hearing and voice
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. (special events set-up), kneeling bending and stooping

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum three (3) years development experience required, with annual fund or alumni relations experience preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all school matters, including donor and volunteer information.
  • Flexible attitude and ability to work as part of a team and willingness to take on responsibilities beyond those explicitly assigned.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to relate to donors, volunteers and suppliers in a sensitive and professional way.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required; basic design skills and working knowledge of Illustrator and InDesign preferred, and experience with donor/database software preferred.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, along with proven organizational skills, particularly related to office procedures.
