Job Details

The Georgia Legal Services Program seeks to fill a full-time bilingual paralegal position in its Atlanta

Office as part of an advocacy team for GLSP’s “Keeping Latino Students in School Initiative” that provides outreach and civil legal assistance to Latinos with low incomes who reside in Cherokee, Henry, Douglas, Rockdale, and Fayette counties.  The paralegal works under the supervision of the project attorney.  Georgia Legal Services is the largest nonprofit law firm in the state that offers civil legal services free of charge to eligible clients who reside outside Atlanta.

JOB DUTIES

Outreach

  • Coordinate outreach plan, maintain outreach documents and coordinate re-supply of materials
  • Conduct outreach to the Latino community in five counties
  • Schedule community education and outreach sessions
  • Maintain records of outreach contacts and education workshops in detail
  • Assist in preparation of updated outreach materials                                       
  • Work to create referral network and network of contacts and alliances in five county area
  • Record all outreach activities in legal server and in reports to the funder

Litigation Support

  • Assist project attorney with research, pleading preparation, trial preparation and case development
  • File documents with the courts
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Case Files and Binders
  • Update web-based case management system, Legal Server, with case activities
  • Assist project attorney with organizing files

Other projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of accredited college or university
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Excellent people skills and experience in working with persons with low incomes
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Some nights and weekends required
  • Reliable transportation
