Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area is a wish granting organization.  Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Our Chapter serves children from Monterey to the Oregon border and anticipates fulfilling over 400 magical wishes this year.  Each wish is unique and is the dream of a child battling a critical illness. The resulting smiles speak volumes to the healing effects of a wish come true.

Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, bilingual team player to assist with wish planning.  This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Program Manager. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing wishes from referral through approval phases
    • Interacting with wish coordinators, wish teams, referral sources and families
    • Processing wish interview forms when received from wish teams
    • Ensuring families have required travel identification
    • Clarifying and finalizing wish ideas with wish children and families
    • Following up with medical team for wish safety and authorization
    • Securing wish approval
    • Monitoring wish process flow to ensure wishes are granted in a timely manner
  • Planning shopping spree wishes
    • Maintaining detailed, accurate administrative records of wishes in database and files
    • Sharing Wish Granter training duty with other members of the Program staff 
    • Occasional weekend and evening work is necessary
    • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Skills:

  • 3+ years related work experience
  • BA or equivalent required
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required, with near native fluency 
  • Extreme attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a positive attitude for working in a cooperative environment
  • Well-organized, able to multi-task efficiently, to meet deadlines under pressure and maintain composure while handling difficult situations
  • Warm, yet professional, demeanor while working with children, families, social workers, medical professionals, staff and volunteers
  • Willingness to be flexible in terms of assigned responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality
  • PC literate – Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher), database, etc
  • Experience with The Raiser’s Edge a plus
