JOB TITLE: Bi-lingual Employment Services Specialist

REPORTS TO: Director of Economic Development

STATUS: Full-Time/ Non-Exempt/ Permanent

COMPENSATION: $24.50 Per Hour (Annual Salary is $50,960). Competitive Salary includes paid medical insurance, paid vacation time, personal days, health days, and holidays

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday; flexibility and occasional evenings will be required

GENERAL SUMMARY:  Under the direction of the and Director of Economic Development, the Employment Services Specialist provides job search, case management, and placement assistance to the Center’s Trans Employment Program and LGBTQ Employment Services clients with multiple barriers to employment. The Center’s Employment Services programs offer vocational case management, placement, and referrals services, as well as retention support to participants and community partners.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the general direction of the Director of Economic Development, this position:

  •  Supports all aspects of the Center's Employment Services, including delivering on grant outcomes, implementing day-to-day workforce development activities, outreach, implementation of program activities, evaluation and program administration.
  • Provides individual services to program participants, including intakes and assessment, client services eligibility, identify immediate needs to provide employment services to LGBTQ participants, and link them to the appropriate services.
  • Assists clients in identifying appropriate short and long-term employment objectives, map out strategies for reaching employment objectives, provides corresponding job development, and support the client throughout the job search.
  • Provides vocational counseling, including case management, coaching on job search and career development. Assists in the development of an Employment Action Plan by determining clients' educational and professional qualifications and transferable skills and makes appropriate job referrals and assists with job matching and placement.
  • Helps clients navigate The Center and collaborative services to pursue their employment goals through job search workshops, life skill classes, and resource referrals. Provides referrals for participant support services as necessary, including: counseling, legal, crisis intervention, housing, transportation, and medical.
  • Coordinates and facilitate job search workshops and life skills classes tailored specifically for Trans/GNC/LGBTQ community members with multiple barriers to employment on a variety of topics including: resume and cover letter writing, completing employment applications, interviewing techniques, networking, effective workplace communication, pre-job fair tips, and more.
  • Coordinates and conducts individual and group instruction through demonstration, lecture, guest speakers, cooperative learning activities, and other modalities of teaching, which address learning style differences and potential learning disabilities.
  • Maintains client files, ensures confidentiality for program participants and follows-up on a consistent and recurring basis.
  • Supports career fairs and other employment services events, including all employer engagement, event planning and development.
  • Builds partnerships with other Center staff and collaborative agencies.
  • Represents the agency in various workforce and economic development meetings and events.
  • Supports all administrative functions of the Employment Services Program, including monthly, quarterly and annual reports with program statistics and written narratives.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Economic Development team. Support Economic Development program activities, and general Center functions as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Cultural humility and demonstrated commitment to the transgender community and familiarity with the diversity of transgender, lesbian, gay, and bisexual identities and experiences are required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in workforce development or employment services, community development, case management, volunteer management or job development to adults from various professional backgrounds with barriers to employment, is required. Spanish bilingual skills highly desired. Fluency in English is required.  Fluency in Spanish is required.
  • Detail-oriented, hardworking, and able to complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
  •  Excellent presentation skills, including networking and public speaking or group facilitation.
  • Understanding of local resources, local and state employment laws, and employment resources for the transgender communities.
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills, ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills and ability to work both independently and within a team-oriented organizational structure. Experience working collaboratively with multiple agencies desired.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Computer proficient in MS Office or similar programs, understanding of concept of relational database, competent in using Internet and excellent research abilities.
  • Innovative and entrepreneurial approach, including solution-oriented approaches to complex issues. Ability to adapt to changing environment and priorities.
  • Commitment to the mission of the San Francisco LGBT Community Center.  Experience and commitment to working in a multicultural environment.
  • Must be able to work in a culturally diverse and fast paced environment.
  • Requires flexibility in working some evenings and/or weekend hours.
