Heluna Health invites applications for the position of Research Associate in the Substance Use Research Unit of the San Francisco Department of Public Health. 

Under the supervision of the Study Coordinator, the Research Associate will be responsible for a wide variety of duties and projects related to substance use and HIV research. This is a time-limited, grant-funded position with non-standard work hours (may require work during evening hours).

This is a full-time, temporary, grant funded and benefited position. Employment is provided by Heluna Health. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support the investigators and research team in the conduct of research protocols within the guidelines of Good Clinical Practice
  • Conduct chart reviews of electronic medical records for participant eligibility
  • Conduct medical chart abstractions for data collection of enrolled participants
  • Assist the Research Scientist and Statistician with preparing, cleaning and extracting data for analysis
  • Screen potential participants over the phone, obtaining informed consent, and proactively managing participant scheduling and conducting study visits.
  • Conduct retention efforts for participants over the course of study follow-up schedule
  • Conduct structured assessment interviews with study participants
  • Other duties include performing quality assurance checks of study documents; entering study data into Access or Excel databases; support in developing and revising study documents including CRFs and standard operating procedures (SOPs); and administrative tasks related to studies
  • Other duties as assigned, including support in implementation of discrete projects to help advance ongoing studies within SURU

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS in related field, or a combination of relevant experience and education
  • Experience and comfort working in a medical setting and with medical providers
  • Proficient computer and data entry skills including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to handle a variety of tasks with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to diverse communities, particularly communities of color and gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community

Desired Qualifications

  • Advance degree in health/mental health or related field
  • Experience with evaluation research
  • Experience performing chart abstraction for research purposes
  • Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Interest and ability to learn a wide array of techniques and technologies and to cross-train to support the duties of other staff members
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
  • Experience with clinical trials research and/or healthcare settings
  • Experience working with challenging participants, or participants with multiple diagnoses
  • Knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures related to the protection of human subjects and confidentiality
  • Any other knowledge and skills useful to this research group is considered a plus (software skills, presentation experience, database knowledge, basic website maintenance, etc.)
