Maslow Project is looking for a passionate, purpose-filled, and driven Development Director to join our team. We are looking for individuals with proven success as a grant writer and an advanced understanding of nonprofit fund development and management. In this role, the Development Director will have an opportunity to see firsthand the direct impact of their work on the young lives we serve and to our community. Applicants with no prior nonprofit development experience will not be considered. We may consider hiring an individual with less experience but all the required attributes who is eager to develop those into expertise as a Development Manager, with opportunity for career growth. The Development Director will be a results-oriented self-starter with a motivating development style, have strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, and exceptional communication skills. This position also requires a creative vision and an entrepreneurial spirit. Must have excellent writing skills (including editing and storytelling). Strong organization skills; keen sense of detail; and knowledge of fund development strategies, tools, functions and requirements. Ability to take initiative, self-manage time and activities, and provide accountability for such. Must be comfortable and accomplished working with community members, funders and donors/partners (speaking engagements, networking, etc.). Strong ability to work collaboratively and effectively with Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff and volunteers, and colleagues. Willing and able to work the hours and schedule as needed to achieve goals. Must demonstrate good judgment, ethical behavior, and cultural awareness of diverse populations. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF editing, database competence, social media, essential budgeting skills, strategic visioning & planning. Proven advanced grant writing skills and project management experience required. Must pass criminal background check, drug screen, and have a valid driver’s license.
In coordination with the Executive Director and Board of Directors: Develop, implement, and report on the agency’s key projects, activities, and events as related to the development of organizational funds, resources, donors, and stakeholders that support the agency’s mission and core programs.
Key Duties: (in coordination with Executive Director, Board of Directors & Stakeholders as relevant)
- Work with ED to set annual fund development goals & strategies
- Develop and implement annual fund development plan to support the strategic plan and agencies vision, mission, and programs
- Secure financial support and in-kind donations from individuals, foundations, corporations and community partners:
- Research and identify new grant funding opportunities
- Create and maintain annual timeline of grant application requirements
- Responsible for writing all major grant applications and required elements
- Develop business and corporate sponsorship proposals
- Develop and implement strategy for individual donor recruitment, retention, giving, and recognition
- Collect data and complete all required grant/funding reports
- Coordinate with Management to ensure completion of funded projects
- Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with donors/partners (includes acknowledgement, cultivation, retention)
- Maintain donor database - DonorSnap
- Produce reports/dashboard to ED and/or BoD as requested on development activities/goals
- Oversee special events (both fundraising and community awareness)
- Provide support to the ED and BoD as needed on development related activities
- Oversee social media/website/agency literature/marketing materials for community awareness/promotion
The Development Director supervises and works collaboratively with the Community Engagement Coordinator.
- Community Engagement Coordinator key duties:
- Secure donations for events/special projects
- Develop business sponsorships/minor grant applications
- Develop community partnerships (local churches, civic groups, etc.)
- Secure and manage in-kind donations (basic needs, food, etc.)
- Community education/awareness events (tabling, presentations, etc.)
- Social media, newsletters, minor campaigns, etc.
