The Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Inc. seeks an Intake Receptionist to work in its Cobb County Office.   The office is a branch of Atlanta Legal Aid and is housed in downtown Marietta, within walking distance to the courthouse.  The staff is comprised of a managing attorney, 7 full-time attorneys, pro bono director, 2 part-time attorneys, Hispanic outreach paralegal, and 4 support staff members. Our non-profit represents low-income persons in a wide variety of civil law problems, including domestic relations, housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law issues.  This 37.5 hours per week position requires working from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The intake receptionist gathers information and determines eligibility of people who call or visit the office seeking legal assistance; verifies information accuracy; enters client information in our computer database; refers callers to appropriate agencies and resources; performs typing and filing as well as other duties as needed.  The volume of calls is very heavy, and callers are often very worried or upset about their situations.  Accordingly, the intake receptionist must have patience, compassion, strong nerves, lively intelligence and good problem–solving skills.

Skills and experiences required:

  • 2 years office experience
  • Experience working with the public
  • Fluency in English
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred
  • Data entry experience and accuracy
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Word
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Type 45 – 50 wpm
  • Ability to operate a multiline telephone
  • Excellent oral and professional written communication skills including spelling, grammar, and style

Terms:  The salary for this position will start at $28,500+ depending on experience. The program provides generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, vacation, sick, and paid parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a $65 deductible and set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); and voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match.

To apply, please send a cover letter, list of three references, and resume to Managing Attorney Tara Riddle at tcriddle@atlantalegalaid.org. No telephone calls please.
