Description & Responsibilities

Ceres’ Food and Forests Program works to protect forests from the impacts of agriculture, largely with a focus on influencing the largest food and beverage companies to improve the sustainability of their agricultural sourcing policies and practices. The Senior Associate, Monitoring and Evaluation will lead our planning, monitoring, and evaluations activities on the Food and Forests team.

This full-time position based in our Boston office and will report to the Program Director, Food and Forests.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design and implement the monitoring and evaluation activities of the Food & Forests team.
  • Monitor the project activities and outputs on a regular basis and assist the Foundations team in preparing Quarterly/Annual reports on project progress.
  • Conduct analyses on food companies to inform issue briefs, risk exposure reports, and engagement briefs for investors.
  • Manage and enhance systems for tracking company sustainability data and metrics on food and beverage companies. Supervise outside consultants on the preparation of company-specific engagement briefs.
  • Develop risk exposure reports and presentations for investors.
  • Assist Director in the development of annual deforestation workplan and periodic reviews of programmatic work and progress reporting.
  • Maintain and regularly update all datasets and Salesforce tracking systems to ensure contacts, meetings, deliverables, news flow and other important information is tracked and available.
  • Participate in Food team activities such as weekly team meetings, quarterly and annual program reviews, and annual planning meetings.
  • Organize or coordinate special projects, as requested.
  • Travel to meetings and events, including international travel, as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree. In absence of bachelor degree, at least 7 years relevant data analysis work experience or 5 years relevant work experience plus associate degree.
  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience, is required, including direct experience working in either the corporate or investment sector with a business audience. Experience working on sustainability-related issues preferred.
  • Proven analytical background with strong quantitative and data analysis skills, required.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with word-processing, presentation, database, and e-mail computer applications. Experience with a Bloomberg Terminal is a plus.
  • Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, and strong initiative and motivation.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Successful record of working on multiple projects and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to accomplish duties noted above.
  • Interest and willingness to be trained on specific applications necessary for work: ReadyTalk, Salesforce, Bloomberg Terminal, etc.
