The California Science Center is a partnership between the California Science Center Foundation and the State of California. The California Science Center Foundation seeks a goal-oriented human resources professional to serve as Vice President of Human Resources. A national and international leader in science education and informal learning, the California Science Center incorporates a dynamic museum with free general admission, robust educational programming and a neighborhood K-5 elementary school to improve public understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and supervising a team of six, the VP of Human Resources provides strategic leadership and functional expertise to drive HR departmental expectations while ensuring compliance with the Foundation’s policies, mission and strategic plan. The VP of Human Resources is responsible for managing and directing all human resources functions including employment, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations and services in support of the Foundation’s objectives to establish the California Science Center as an employer of choice in the nonprofit community. A minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible human resources management experience is preferred, including four years as a supervisor. Employee relations and California labor law experience are essential and expected. SHRM certification and experience in a nonprofit institution would be beneficial, but are not required. A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a management-related area.
