Company
Emerge is changing the face of politics to create an inclusive democracy. We are the nation's premier organization that recruits, trains and provides a powerful network to Democratic women who want to run for office. Since 2002, Emerge has trained more than 4,000 Democratic women to run for office, and there are currently more than 690 Emerge alumnae who hold elected office.
Our Mission
To increase the number of Democratic women in public office through recruitment, training and providing a powerful network.
Who We Are
Emerge is a unique national organization that focuses on effective state programming and has built an inclusive network. We are the only political organization aimed at recruiting, training and providing a powerful network for our Emerge women with staff, alumnae, boards and volunteers on the ground 365 days each year. Emerge oversees locally-based training programs, expands operations to new regions often where women’s voices are left out, partners with local political groups who empower the community and increases program offerings to meet the growing need for candidate training and alumnae networking across the country.
Overall, Emerge women won 415 seats in 2018 and were part of:
- Creating 7 new majorities in Colorado, Connecticut and Maine.
- Establishing 6 new supermajorities in Oregon, Nevada and Vermont.
- Breaking 3 Republican supermajorities in key battleground states, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
Why Women?
- Studies have shown women in elected office overwhelmingly support and push forward democratic principles like equality and fairness.
- When women hold public office they are more actively involved in a variety of gender-salient issue areas, including healthcare, the economy, education and the environment.
- Women legislators are more responsive to constituents, value cooperation over hierarchical power and find ways to engineer solutions in situations where men have trouble finding common ground.
