Development Officer

Job Description

New Life Community Ministries (NLCM), an extension of New Life Church, serves as a vital safety net to South DeKalb and Metro-Atlanta families and individuals that are at risk of homelessness experiencing varied life challenges. Since 1992, NLCM has provided core case management and critical wrap around services for Homelessness Prevention, GED and Career Services. Located on the I-20 corridor in South DeKalb County, New Life is at the epicenter of one of the most concentrated areas of poverty in the Metro-Atlanta area. NLCM’s broad array of critical services offers hope and skills that help individuals to break the cycle of poverty and transform their lives to become self-sufficient.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Officer is responsible for the administration and management of all fundraising and fund development operations of NLCM. Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Development Officer’s primary responsibilities include working on the strategic development plan; managing the donor database and communications; creating fundraising appeals; researching and writing annual grants; calendar coordination; assisting with the development and implementation of special fundraising projects to achieve annual fundraising goals; development of collateral materials to support fundraising initiatives; and other administrative duties as assigned.

NLCM Development Officer Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage all fundraising programs, including annual appeals, direct mail, email solicitation, events, special projects, corporate/foundation giving, and other special projects.
  2. Strengthen and manage all fundraising systems, including the donor database, calendars, meetings, donor correspondence schedule, etc.
  3. Develop and manage all fundraising materials, including content/messaging, grant proposals and reports.
  4. Structure and manage an annual calendar for stewardship, donor cultivation, solicitation, and renewal of individual donors with a goal of increasing individual gifts by 3-8% annually.
  5. Conduct ongoing prospect research to identify changes in individual donor giving habits and identify new donor pools utilizing donor database.
  6. Work with ED to manage all digital fundraising strategies: content; list management; calendar management; tracking; responses; and analytics.
  7. Act as primary liaison to the event chair and committee of the NLCM 5K Run and other special fundraising events.
  8. Collaborate with ED and Communications Consultant to provide thought leadership on all printed collateral including newsletters, annual reports, and invitations. Assist with creation of website content, and social media content.
  9. Provide administrative support to the ED as it relates to correspondence, appointment scheduling, maintaining contact reports, and other donor related activities.
  10. Provide support for Board correspondence, meetings, and other special projects.
  11. Schedule and support major donor visits and communication.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least five (5) years of relevant fundraising experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years successful experience in fundraising and fundraising event planning for a non-profit organization.
  • Minimum of three (3) years grant writing experience.
  • Knowledge of the Atlanta funding community as well as national funding resources.
  • Proven success in event management. 
  • Solid experience in donor research, segmentation, prospecting, and implementation.
  • Ability to managing several projects simultaneously and quickly adjust to changes with minimal supervision.
  • Prior experience for a nonprofit organization.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Social media experience is a plus.
  • Collaborating with marketing teams is a plus.
