Leap Solutions Group has partnered with CTE Foundation Sonoma County in their search for a Director of Resource Development (DRD). The ideal candidate is a bright, friendly, sophisticated relationship-builder, who has a deep understanding of the importance of donor cultivation and stewardship. They will have proven knowledge and experience directing fund development programs for multimillion-dollar organizations.  In addition to being adept at successfully forging and maintaining donor and community partnerships, he/she will have a track record working collaboratively and effectively with governing Boards.  In this role, the Director of Resource Development will provide strong leadership and communicate across a variety of audiences (staff, board, volunteers, stakeholders, government/community partners, etc.), and have a firm understanding of fiscal management, contracts, regulations, strategic planning and funding sources.

Position Summary:

  • The Director of Resource Development is hired by and reports directly to the Executive Director. The main responsibilities of the position are working with the Executive Director, Director of CTE Programs and Board of Directors to create fund development partnerships that increase financial support for current and future programming activities.
  • The DRD brings a proven knowledge and experience in directing fund development programs for multimillion-dollar organizations.  

Resource Development Leadership

  • Develop and monitor CTEF’s fund development plan, including strategic goals and objectives to ensure appropriate, organizationally effective and timely growth and the furtherance of CTEF’s mission.
  • Ensure the highest standards are met through donor cultivation and stewardship programs.
  • Create and lead overall resource development strategy for individual, corporate, government and foundation donors.
  • Develop innovative funding partnerships with organizations that further the goals and initiatives of the CTEF.
  • Communicate a positive image of the CTEF that builds confidence and trust with stakeholders and the public.
  • Work closely with the chair of the Fund Development Committee of the Board of Directors. Direct meeting agendas for committee meetings and inspire and support committee members, and the board, to be knowledgeable, effective ambassadors for CTEF.
  • Work in coordination with the Director of CTE Programs to obtain resources to implement CTEF’s short term and long-term programmatic initiatives.
  • Oversee and supervise the Marketing and Development Manager (MDM)in developing communication materials, messaging (print/online), social media strategy and events that effectively communicate the organization’s brand, impact and case for support.
  • Oversee advanced prospect management and analysis systems.
  • Work with CTEF team to identify new and cultivate current major donors in order to broaden and deepen pool of discretionary funds.
  • Work with the Executive Director in the development and launch of a planned giving program.
  • Work with MDM to ensure timely and effective gift acknowledgement and donor recognition programs.
  • Work with the MDM to update marketing materials and the development of invitations, flyers, and other materials to promote programs and resource development.

Grant Writing and Reporting

  • In coordination with the Director of CTE Programs, oversee the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundations and other funding sources.
  • When necessary, perform or coordinate prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate the prospects for grants. Assist other departments to gather the information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.

Organizational Management

  • The DRD oversees the Resource Development Department, currently consisting of the DRD, and the Marketing and Development Manager (MDM). Has direct responsibility for management, training, orientation, and annual evaluation of staff under her/his supervision. Ensure that the annual performance reviews of direct reports are conducted in a timely manner. Evaluate the performance of employees for compliance with established policies and objectives of the organization and for their contributions in attaining those objectives. Participate in organizational planning, development, and assessment activities.
  • Participate in developing the annual operating budget and oversee and report on progress on meeting budget projections. Responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the Resource Development budget.
  • Set the standard for effective leadership and management by maintaining a high level of ethics, prudence, productivity and professionalism. Manage employees in a positive manner, working in areas that need improvement through training and counseling with a goal of developing more capable staff.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership to all CTEF staff. Interpret and share CTEF’s mission, vision and values.

Special Assignments

  • Work with the Marketing and Development Manager to plan and coordinate special events.
  • When necessary, represent CTEF at public events and make presentations to donor groups, civic groups, and other special events.
  • Assist the Board and the Executive Director as necessary in other tasks that promote the visibility and reputation of CTEF in the community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; CFRE desirable.
  • Minimum of five years of experience at the director level leading development efforts in an entrepreneurial nonprofit environment.
  • Passion and commitment to CTEF’s mission.
  • Ability to drive agenda forward by building strong internal/external partnerships with diverse groups of constituents.
  • Demonstrated success in networking to build creative and mutually beneficial business relationships within the corporate, public, and private sectors.
  • Track record of working with individuals, families, corporate, foundation, and government sources, and proven ability to expand and cultivate donor relationships over time.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of the full spectrum of development, including gift solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition and administration.
  • Strategic, analytical approach combined with professionalism and charisma.
  • Strong organizational, writing and public speaking skills.
