Position Summary:

Baby2Baby is actively searching for a mission-driven, Senior Disaster Relief Specialist to join the Baby2Baby team. Under direction, this full-time position will be focused on expanding, overseeing and coordinating the operations and services of the Baby2Baby Disaster Relief Program.  This new team member would provide technical expertise, collaborate/build relationships with key partners on the ground with emergency management staff and non-governmental organizations supporting disaster relief services and implement program goals of distributing basic essentials to low-income children affected.

Specific functions of this position include building and holding relationships with emergency management institutions, government partnerships, measurement and evaluation, communication and assessment of needs on the ground, shipment logistics and transportation, and response management. 

About Baby2Baby:

Baby2Baby provides low-income children, ages 0-12 years, with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves.  Over the past 7 years, the organization has distributed 50 million items to children in need including over 29 million diapers. 

The Disaster Relief Program allows Baby2Baby to respond to emergencies and meet the needs of children affected by natural disasters and emergency situations, providing hundreds of thousands of basic essentials such as: diapers, wipes, hygiene products, clothing, and safe sleep solutions.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a Baby2Baby thought leader and ensures interface with government entities, organizations, and other experts in the field of emergency services, disaster policy and operations.
  • Mobilizes the Baby2Baby to prepare for, respond to emergencies. Meets the needs and expectations of partners, Baby2Baby National Network members and stakeholders.
  • Executes a comprehensive protocol in response to any scale of disaster; Participates in a manager role on larger operations locally and nationwide.
  • Ensures disaster services are delivered in a rapid and accessible manner in order to meet the urgent needs of our partners on the ground.
  • Program management: Accountable for the implementation of the disaster relief program in alignment with established metrics by the Program Director.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive partnership management strategy that streamlines and supports the program. This includes surveying on-ground operations such as storage and logistics mapping with partners for future disaster strategy. 
  • Coordinate the management of ongoing relationships with existing partners and member agencies and where relevant, leverage those relationships to greater collective impact.
  • Develop systems and procedures in support of the identification, engagement and development of strategic partnerships for greater impact when a disaster strikes.

Qualifications 

Knowledge of:

  • Operations, services and activities of an emergency services and disaster relief program. 
  • Disaster management and recovery. 
  • Principles and practices of emergency service program development and implementation.
  • Concepts of emergency activities at various levels of government.
  • Intergovernmental relations and political processes. 
  • Basic procedures, methods and techniques of budget preparation and control.
  • Modern office equipment including computers and applicable software applications.
  • Pertinent federal, state and local laws, with disaster response.

 

Education and Experience GuidelinesAny combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. 

  • Education/Training:
    • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university. Advanced degree preferred;
  • Experience:
    • A minimum experience of three years experience leading emergency management services. Knowledge of volunteer management, community and government programs and procedures as well as disaster technical expertise;
  • License or Certificate:
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license, and ability to drive light duty truck.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT 

Environment: 

Office and field environment; travel from site to site. May be required to work evenings and weekends to provide program direction and ensure adequate coverage to make sure relief efforts run smoothly and efficiently.

Physical: 

Sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting; perform light to moderate lifting and carrying; standing, walking or sitting for prolonged periods of time; mobility to operate in a emergency operations location; operating motorized vehicles.
