DevOps Instructor

Purpose: Serve as the Instructor for Gameheads’ DevOps program. Instructor will work with 12-25 Bay Area students ages 18-25 and be responsible for teaching Linux, Mac OSX, and Windows system administration and support, database administration (MySQL & MS SQL, Postgres, Mongo DB), cloud computing (AWS (Amazon Web Services) & Google Compute Engine administration and support, network fundamentals (Firewalls, routers, switches, & wireless network technologies), basic programming and scripting (Shell scripts, Python, and Ruby on Rails), cybersecurity (DoS (Denial of Service, password cracking, exploits, auditing and IDS systems), SaSS applications (JIRA, Hipchat, Confluence, Slack, Google Apps, Active Directory, Webex, and Office 365), Splunk, web analytics and more.

Reports to: Founder/Executive Director and Board Chair

Time frame: February - November 2019

Hours: 3 hours per week plus 1 hour of prep time.

Location: United Roots | Youth Impact Hub

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate classroom training in the aforementioned areas.
  • Facilitate and help develop and codify the DevOps curriculum.
  • Manage the DevOps program cohort. This includes monitoring attendance, following up on students with challenges, teaching valuable professional skills, providing resources and more.
  • Set example of best practices in professionalism, leadership, culture, creativity and diversity.
  • Work collaboratively with a high-functioning group.
  • Maintain an excellent work ethic, a high level of energy and exceptional enthusiasm all day.
  • Handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary.

Requirements:

  • Experience with the following operating systems Mac OSX, Windows, and Linux
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts, security fundamentals, and vulnerability management
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts related to AWS (Amazon Web Services) GCE (Google Compute Engine) and Azure.
  • Basic understanding of virtualization technologies.
  • Familiarity with one of the following programming languages Python, Ruby, or C++.
  • Knowledge of/experience with youth in low-income communities and/or under-served communities of color is not required but preferred..
  • Bilingual is not required but preferred.

Experience & Education

·       2-5 years of experience with computing technologies in the private or public environment.

·       2+ years of experience with Windows, Mac OSX, or Windows in a professional or educational setting.

The Gameheads: DevOps program provides tech training for low income, students of color ages 18-25. The vision of this apprenticeship program is to educate, transform and prepare young students to establish careers in the IT field.
